4" or 5" Exhaust.. Any gain besides sound?

Guys, I'm sure this has been talked about a million times but my search is not getting me much. I will be doing some mod's/deletes to my truck sometime. Is there any advantage to going to a 5" exhaust opposed to a 4"? I'm hearing that the 5" will help reduce a little more heat. Is that true? Not bashing anyone, just asking! Also, is there any sound difference between 4" and 5" exhausts? I don't really want anymore noise. I just want a free flowing truck!

Thanks

I'm in the same situation.
looking for a replacement exhaust for my 05.

When I had the 02 vp truck there was talk of the 5" actually hurting the flow and power. Several shops told me 4" was good to 700+ hp.
The restriction is at the turbo not the exhaust.
I actually proved it to my self by trying an HX40 turbo. mileage went up, but towing ability went down.

I just ordered a 4" aluminum with turbo. Noise isn't power or cool to me.
I don't like the 5" with no muffler that guys are running around the area.

4" should last longer too with more air flow volume helping to dry it out when miosture collects in it.

It has been proven that you actually lose a little on the bottom end with 5" unless you are 500 hp or above. You do gain more noise with the 5" though so some may think other wise ..... enough to bother you?....depends really on the person, I think most can't really tell by the butt meter
