deleting 2012
Hey, there.
I also have the 2012 HO. I did the deletes and Loaded the ME software on the smarty. You have to disconnect all three of the EGR connectors under the hood. There are two on top and one for the throttle valve under the intake horn.
I have had no issues at all, other than the "torque management" limiting power so the tranny can live.

Buzzman,
I guess I misunderstood. I thought you said you had only unplugged the connectors associated with the exhaust system.
If you have also disconnected the egr system, you got it right.
Some have been under the assumption that there is no need to unplug the egr equipment, because the Smarty disables the egr. This is not correct per Smarty Resource.
Cheers,

no you are right i did not unplug anything under the hood what is gonna be the difference if i do i was unser the impression that with the smarty you did not have to unplug anything.
So i just have to unplug those 3 connector and everything should be good. what is the benefit to disconnect those 3 connector.

Buzzman,
The smarty (as I understand it) does not defeat the egr function. It stops the regen cycles, which is the added fuel to burn off the DPF filter, but you must disconnect the egr equipment to stop it's function. Then the smarty clears the error codes and check engine light.
I spoke to smarty resource before doing my truck to make sure for myself.

Ok, so I am confused. I have a 2012 Ram I bought new last April and it's got 4K miles on it. I did my DPF delete today and didn't unplug anything under the hood.
The service Mgr at our local Dodge dealer told me you didn't have to unplug anything under the hood, but when I called Advance Diesel to order the Smarty and pipe, the guy told me to unplug the EGR and Throttle Valve.
There is a little pamphlet that came with my Smarty and it specifically says this: "Unplugging the EGR will throw the engine into a limp mode thus about 40HP are lost. The actuator motor of the EGR valve should remain connected in order to see full power gain from these softwares".
Today after I finished with the deletes and out on a test drive, I noticed my EB no longer works, but the truck seems to have a quicker response taking off and between shifts( I have a 6 spd stick).
Thanks in advance for getting me straightened out!

Hey, there.
I don't claim to be an expert, just an owner who deleted per the instructions from they guy at smarty resource. We discussed it at length and he told me that the smarty jr does not "turn off" the egr function. You must manually do it via disconnecting the components. The smarty will then stop the check engine light from illuminating. I know that after I deleted, I had no check engine light and better performance, including power and fuel economy.
I think there are differences with the deleting procedure from year to year. Do not accept my opinion on exactly how to do your particular truck. I would call smarty resource and the guy there (who we will keep anonymous) can give you the correct information for your specific truck.
Mine is a 2012 and I thought I might be able to help out another owner.
