If heat and friction are the major problems with an internal combustion engine why are the theromstats at 195 degrees.
Would putting in a 185 or even a 160 degree thermostat give a longer life to your engine
I own a 2010 6.7 cummins

Well you have to maintain a certain temp while operating. If you run too cool then fuel burn efficiency will be lost. Now exactly how cool is too cool, Im not sure.
I did go from a 200 to a 190 when I did the work on my truck.

When you changed to the 190 did you temps drop a bit. My 2010 runs at 204 to 210 after the deletes. Thinking I may want to lower the temps a bit before I start race season and start towing. Your thoughts Blake?

mine is 185 going down the road. I have noticed that since I did the manual trans swap the engine temps are cooler by not having the tranny cooler up front pre heating the radiator. 10-12 degrees cooler. also killing the post injection event cooled her down a lot also. stock tstat on mine still also
