New truck itch is now gone!

I have been having the itch for a new trunk. My 07, 5.9 auto has 110000 miles with only having to replace two injectors under warranty and I am getting about 20mpg give or take a little depending on how I drive.

After reading about the new turcks that get crap for fuel milage and all the problems. I think I will just keep my 5.9! May be a new transmittion instead of a new truck.

Hook up the truck on efiLive tuning - it will be a new truck anyway for about one payment's investment.

That's fine, but over the next 48 months you could either:

A. Replace the trans ($4k), four more injectors ($4k), ball joints ($1k), steering box ($400), shocks ($300), tires ($1000)= $10,500k on a credit card ~$250/month (less if you do the work yourself of course).

B. Sell/trade your truck (about $25k?) , buy new & finance the difference (~$20k) for 48 months at 3% for $440/month

With "B" you get a really sweet new ride, a real back seat and a warranty (or not- your choice ) for "just" another $200 a month. I was in your same boat and you can see which option I chose.

I don't think the money is the factor here. It's not with me either. It's a matter of them getting the issues worked out of the smog devices on the new ones.

Yeah, but with a NEW diesel comes the emissions crap. Can spend the 2+ grand to delete, voiding a much needed warranty.....

Nope, mine is running smooth as silk also.

Don't know why tires got figured in to the cost as a NEW truck will need them also.

I don't blame you, sometimes I wish I had kept my 2006. I have a 2012 now, have the EGR unplugged, which gets me up close to 18mpg. I have a 110 mile round trip commute. I don't want to delete, I'd like to keep my warranty.

Of course it throws a P0405, which is the expected EGR code. But sometimes I have the P2002 code show up, which is DPF low efficiency. My understanding is that the truck will not regen with this code present. So what to do?? Plug EGR back in suck in all the crap that's been built up, into my engine? Don't plug back in and take the chance that the DPF fills up?

Save yourself the trouble, keep what you have....

Spend a few hours every weekend cleaning out your intake with a shop vac?

Highway you hit the nail on the head.

Sohappy I would not do A or B under you post. Cash baby Cash.

Would hate to spend 45K+ and then have to work on it to make it run hell I just soon have a Ford.

Don't like having the full back seat Like the quad cab much better then the crew cab.

Put back the amount a new payment would be each month, and those upgrades can be paid for out of pocket quite easily. That, or if you get the itch again, a really good down payment.

Just keep in mind those 06/07 engines are very prone to melting down. Had one customer try to tell me my newly rebuilt CR 5.9L gets 26mpg on his 06.

The original engine we yanked out, had three pistons with the 2nd ring broken, one big groove cut into the #6 cylinder, as a result of a bad injector. Must have built 3 to 4 engines this month just from 06/07 engines.

Once deleted, you'll get decent fuel mileage the same or better. Who says you don't get warranty for doing a delete. Guys that non warranty story gets old.

I'm glad I bought my truck, been problem free since I bought the truck. I use my truck for work, my old truck had already blown a transmission, and had to pay the entire bill out my pocket.

Im 2 for 2 on "warranty voids"

The 08 had a water pump, and some tranny work (backup light sensor, new reverse solenoid) done. Both at different dealerships, both with full deletes. Both with no issues on warranty, both with techs wanting a ride afterwards, and all being impressed by how much just deletes and a decent tuner changes the truck.

I'm sure glad I don't buy parts where you do.

Well, like I said- those prices include labor. I forgot he'll be needing u-joints on the front axle and rear prop shaft soon as well, and maybe wheel bearings if not already replaced. At least another $500.
