You know that black steel rim for the spare?

I want three more.

I was headed down to get my trans built this weekend, and had a flat on the way down. I threw on the spare tire and now I like the look of the crappy old black steel spare rim better than the crappy old chrome-clad wonders I have the rest of the way around.

Anyone know a good source of procuring three more spare tire-style rims?

I know there's black steel beneath the chrome plastic cladding of my wheels already, but I like the pattern of the spare tire rim better, so I'm not going to rip the chrome off my other wheels.

BTW, the transmission is great.

I would put out something on the classifieds. I can't run mine because of the 37's and don't want to ruin the diff's. If we did not live so far appart, i would sell you mine and it has never been installed on the truck. it went into the garage the day i bought the truck.

HOV,
What did ya get done to the trans?
Curious as I'm considering having Tim do a full up trans for me.
I'm in NOVA as well.....

I had the full DTT build. The only extra thing I got beyond the standard DTT package is a billet flexplate. In retrospect, I should have done the input shaft as well but I don't plan to run too much power so the stocker will most likely be okay.

I think the worse cases for breaking an input shaft would have to do with sudden high torque where the wheels don't spin very easily - like flooring it from dirt to street, or a boosted 4WD launch.

Tim knows his stuff unlike any other human being I have ever known. Really amazing dude.

It's a cool process to see how everything is done. I definitely feel comfortable doing a band adjustment and fluid/filter change now. I didn't feel that way a week ago.

The trans is smooth and strong. The things he did to it make a lot of sense, and should have that thing lasting a long, long time. What I didn't realize before was how sloppy the trans is not only from a TC perspective, but also in how it handles fluid internally. Pressure is everything on a slush box, and the DTT build includes a lot of stuff to make sure the fluid is handled right.

After loosing an 80 dollar center cap in the mud I put my chrome into the attic so I no longer have to worry about where it is.

I have gotten more compliment on my truck with black rims than when it had chrome.

Did you go with the spare-style rims? If so, where did you get yours?

Are they a nice gloss black or just a beat up looking wheel? I have an 07 with low miles and I keep wanting to do it to see how it will look but I won't bother if the wheels are sorry looking. Any pics?

I had mine in the classifieds, but instead of selling I think I'm going to dismount the Michelin donut, powder coat the wheel, and mount my Toyo M/T to it and put it on a spare tire carrier!

Anyone want a 265/70-17 Michelin tire?

So I loaded up the spare in the back of my truck this morning to get the Michelin dismounted and realized something: the steel wheels are heavy! Once I get my 80-lb Toyo mounted to it I'm going to have a heck of a time lifting it in and out of the bed!

The Dodge steel chrome clad wheels weigh around 41lbs compared to about 26lbs for the alloys. I have not weighed the spare steel wheel, it is probably a little less than the steel chrome clad wheel. The spare steel black wheel is 17x7.5, the steel chrome clad are 17x8.
