Worn leather steering wheel

Worn leather steering wheel
So the leather on my steering wheel is looking pretty sad at the 6 oclock position now,and I have seen other threads about covering it different ways. But I was wondering if anyone had ever cut the leather off of theirs and if so what the plastic underneath was like.Once I saw a fellow workers Dodge and it just had a textured plastice wheel, not sure if it was an SLT or what, but I thought it was much nicer than my leather one and certainly more durable.

Underneath the leather will be a urethane, not real pleasing to the eye plus it has grooves in it for the seams, I have some background in steering wheels. I changed mine to a leather wheel with radio controls sometime back, I did sell my urethane wheel on e-bay. I do have a wheel, brand new w/leather but it was a experimental wheel from Chrysler and has the wrong armature in it, but the leather would be a great replacement. I have seen people on eBay that offer wheels for Grand National's that say they have the means to replace leather but you may be without your truck for a while.

Urethane? is that like a foam type wheel? Mine feels very hard under the leather.Anyone know model of RAM comes with just the hard plastic textured steering wheel and can have the radio controls mounted on the back?I just got a wheel skins from Genos, but I think its going to make my wheel feel alot rounder than I thought.

Genos Wheel Skins
I have installed many of these... if you do it right you will love it. You need to do it before it wears too far as any indentations will show through (Don't take the factory leather off first either as it will look and fit like crap). I also like how much thicker it is... looks like it should have come that way-

I just installed a rewrapped wheel from dallas custom steering wheels. I had them at a 1/16 pad to it so it's as thick as the 2011s are and soft to the touch.
