Worlds fastest truck has Cummins engine
I was watching Offroad TV this morning and saw a piece on the worlds fastest truck. A Dodge Dakota with a Cummins 5.9L Diesel engine. Built by the Banks company. The company claims that the bottom half of the engine is stock except for the cam shaft. The top side however had this enormous intake and turbo setup. The engine produces 750 horse power and runs the 1/4 in 12 sec. at 115 mph. Banks drove the truck to the salt flats pullung the equipment trailer. Once the arrived the checked out the engine and began their runs. They set the record for fastest truck at 229 mph. I was glued to the TV to say the least. I was waiting for the tuck to do a barrel roll when they reved the engine. Absolutely amazing. I just want to know when I can order my Dakota with a 600 in it. I'm sure others here have already heard about this but I have not seen a thread on it.

Yeah, it's called the Sidewinder. Been around a while. When the Ford and Chevy boys start talking smack about how fast their crap is, just pull that one out on them.
If they talk about how the diesel powered F250 smoked a Mustang at the strip, just let 'em know that once again it was powered by a Cummins motor.

I'm not sure if that beat Carl Heaps record with the Pheonix on the salt flats. I'll have to do a search on the web. But I think the record was 258mph had 2 Detroit engines in it. Carl took me to his house once & showed it to me a few years back. Carl just recently passed on to that big race track in the sky.
Edit:
212.478 mph 1996
237 mph 1997
239 mph 1998

i think the sidewinder with the cummins is in a different class than the phonex with the green grenade detroits. at least they should be. look at the size/hp difference between the two of them... both are cool though
