wiring color code inquiry

Hello

Does anyone know what color the 'backup light" wire is on a 2004 2500. I would like to tap into it for a backup camera. There are 5 wires running up to the tailight on the driver side and would prefer not to "probe" them with my test light if i don't have to. Salt on our roads eventually gets a way in and corrodes the wires. The 5 wires are color coded as follows:

Black
Green/white tracer
White/lime tracer
White/yellow tracer
White/dark green tracer

you could tap into it at the trailer plug pretty easy.

You don't have to. Take a look at your taillight assembly. In particular look for two wires that come out of the backuplight socket. Now, after you've noted where these two wires go into the male/female connector plugs of the harness, unplug the taillight assembly from the wiring harness and set it aside. Have a friend turn the key on (but dont start the truck!) and move the shift lever into reverse while you probe the two contacts inside the wiring harness end of the connectors

Also, the ground wire is usually and solid color while the hot is usually a striped color wire.

Reecegr has it. The wire is WT/LG and if you're tapping into it back by the tailgate you're probably safe. But beware WT/LG isn't exclusive to the backup lamps. DC used that wire color for other functions such as the left high beam. Dieseljunky's idea will tell you for sure that you have the correct wire however I'd probably leave the harness plugged in and use a volt/ohm meter to determine which wire is which.

I just used the wire at the 7 pin trailer plug. Easy to get to and you don't have to remove anything to get to it.
