Why Debadge?

I debaged my tailgate for 3 reasons:
1) I have done it on every other vehicle I have ever owned.
2) I dont keep the cigarette lighter in and the little plug in light with the no smoking sign was just about as ugly as the emptly socket.
3) I wanted to get rid of the no smoking light but still light up my drink holders at night.

I've thought about debadging just because they couldn't mold mine correctly and they are flawed from the factory! Missing chrome on the "Y" in Duty that is molded inside the clear... Too bad it isn't like a coin misprint or something that is worth more for such a defect... I can't hit the lotto, but sure can get the .001% defect mass produced part.

I was going to ask if doing it to a an older truck 05 if there would be more chance of an imprint in the paint that or a color fade that would be a problem. I am thinking the 3500 needs to go.

i got the eraser from the auto parts store. put it on the drill and went to town. did it light to get the foam off then used a mr. clean magic eraser to get the rest off. looks like a new truck. it looks so much cleaner. i will put a pic soon.

Great Idea! Nice looking trucks. Gotta run and do this to mine...
So, I debadged mine tonight. I love the clean look. However, I do have some questions about polishing to make the paint look perfect. I am kind-of a perfectionist and if I put a good light to it at an angle, I can still see the outline of each piece that I removed.
Here is what I did:
1) Cut off all badges with a wire PVC cutter (real similar to fishing line, but my line kept breaking), So I brought out the big hammer - 1 Hour
2) Used a new plastic scraper to remove the remaining large pieces of adhesive. My local auto parts stored did not have a 3M Eraser Wheel. - 1-2 Hours
3) Used paint thinner and goo-gone to remove all remaining adhesive. - 1-2 Hours
4) Washed it good with soap and water. - 10 Minutes
5) Used Liquid Glass Auto Polish with an orbital buffer/polisher for about 20 minutes per area. - 2 Hours.
6) Waiting to wax, until I can get the finish to be perfectly smooth.
It looks great to the naked eye, but I am sure with headlights hitting my tailgate or door panels at the correct angle, one would be able to see the minor scratches and outline of the missing badges.
What do you suggest to perfect the finish?

I left mine badged. I leave it dirty most of the time too. That way no one thinks I have much going on... you can't tell except for the 6" exhaust. I put a "Banks power" sticker on the tailgate so more experienced diesel guys will see that and think I have a POS and want to act silly... Perfect "sleeper" truck.
