Wheel/tire combo question

I am about to buy some wheels and tires for my truck and was wondering if anyone out there has something similar. I am worried that the tires will stick out past the fenders.

Wheels - 20x9 lug 8x165.1 offset +25
Tires - 275/55/20

the offset should be ok, but those are a pretty small tire, I have been worried about how a 305 50 20 will look on my truck. Go the tire manufacturers website, they will show you all the specs for each tire

When you say small, do you mean hight or width? I don't want to go so tall that my speedo is effected. I also don't want to go so wide that the tires stick out past the fenders. I'm not totally against putting on some slim flares if needed but not too large. This is a 2WD. And not a fan of tires sticking out 3 to 6 inches past the fenders.

The wheel specs are perfect, but like morkable said, the tire is a little small. I understand you're trying to stay close to the stock size but it may look funny with a big wheel and tiny tire under such a big truck.

So, taller and wider?
I am looking at the Yokohama AVID SUV
These are the other sizes available.
295/45R20 114H
295/50R20 118H
305/50R20 120H
The max weight on these is right at 3k lbs. each and the biggest thing I tow is a flatbed with my Jeep on it.

the 305/50R20 is 32" tall by 12" wide. That's the absolute smallest I'd go.

305? It's a 2WD with a 1 1/2" front level kit. I don't think a 305 will fit, at least not without rubbing. Is there anyone with 305s on a 2WD? How far do they stick out?

I didn't notice you had 2wd. My comments apply to 4wd...I'm not sure what fits a 2wd.

I know little about low profile tires on big rims but I wouldn't go under a 120 load index on my 2500 series truck.

The 114 load index is good for 2600lbs and the 120 load index is 3000lbs.

Rock Crawler,
I don't think I would take a chance on these tires, especially if you tow. They are really designed for 1/2 ton and smaller trucks. If you are trying to stay close to the stock height with a 20" wheel, you are going to reduce your sidewall height by about 1.5". This will make for one rough ride. You may need a kidney belt. A good compromise might be an 18" wheel with a 285/65R18. They have the same sidewall height as stock but are about 1" taller and a little less than 1" wider. I went with this setup with a wheel that has 6" back spacing. They fit perfectly within the wheel wells.

275/65/20 10 ply Goodyear wrangler Silent armor will fit nicely

Ford F-250 Harley Davidson are equipped with those tires.

Look at the Diesel Power mag and look for Project X. It's a 2wd 3rd gen running 305/50/20 nitto 420s on it. I am thinking about putting these on my 2nd gen but I'm not sure that they'll fit on mine

The 305 50 20 will work excellent on a 2 wd, there is a member on here, bigbegum (I think I spelled that correct) He has a sweet 2wd with those tires on it. Looks absolutely awesome, no rubbing. And dont go with anything lighter than a 120 (3086 lbs) load rating. The way you figure this out is to take the total weight of your truck, divide this by 4, add 20 to 30% to that number and that is the lowest load rating you should have on your truck

I went to the Diesel Power Mag website but I could not find any pics of this truck. I think you have to have a subscription to view the article. Do you happen to have pics of this truck. I have a friend that had 305/50/20 tires on his truck and ended up taking them off because they stuck out way past the fender and they ballooned out from the wheel - looked strange. This will be going on a 9 inch wheel not a 10 inch.

Sorry Rock Crawler but besides looking taco, you'll Flintstone those things when you hit a pot holes in the road. These trucks are too heavy for bubble gummers. You need more sidewall.

Good luck
