Wheel Offset for 06 2500 2WD

Hey guys and gals, I recently bought some new wheels from Discount and they are only 1/2 inch wider than the factory ones, but the 1/2 inch is to the outside and the offset seems excessive too. They stick out and get the truck filthy when you so much as go through a little puddle. Also they make the truck look like a rollerskate.
What is the proper offset I should be looking for in an aftermarket wheel? Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Factory offset is +1.7" -- If my calculations are correct, you can get factory backspacing by adding the offset to the centerline (4") which in this case is 5.7". They will stick outside the mounting pad by 2.3".

So let's say you go with a wheel that's 9" wide with a 1" offset and 5.5" of backspacing. In this case you'll have 3.5" sticking out from the mounting pad. Put another way, this wheel will stick out 1.2" more than the factory wheel.

Maybe someone here can confirm this & that I got it right. I think I do.

Not sure if there's a difference between the 4x4 and 4x2, but the stock 17x8 Dodge wheels on the 4x4s have a backspacing of approximately 6.2" and +42mm offset.

When I was shopping for wheels, Discount only had one or two styles with close to stock measurements. If it was my truck, I would take them back and complain. Discount, which is usually a very good company to deal with, should have informed you how much the new wheels would stick out, and the potential long term affect on your wheel bearings.

Just my two cents,
EDR

Thanks guys. I am going to take them back and just have them put the factory chrome ones back on until I find someone that cares a little more, or actually is a little more knowledgable. Thanks for your input.
