There's a small pump back there that I thought was the washer fluid pump but apparently it's not. Yesterday that pump started running constantly anytime my key is on and I ended up having to unplug it. It has black tubing running to up under the cowl and T's off to under the washer reservoir so I figured it was the washer pump but even with it unplugged my washer pump still works. The washer pump is definitely in a different place under the hood too. So, does anyone know what this pump is supposed to do? Everything seems fine and I am getting no warning lights or anything...

This all started after I washed the truck and hosed off the engine. I have tried unhooking both batteries for a couple hours but that did not reset anything....

IIRC its the vacuum pump for the cruise control on pre 04.5 trucks.

Hmmm, I'll have to see if the cruise works now. If that's the case then I'll definitely have to get that fixed...

nope thats what it is a vacume pump also makes the heat/defroster move i beleve.

Well, I followed the tubing and it does go into a T where one line goes under the cowl and the other one definitely goes to the CC servo under the driver's side battery. I'm going to let the dealer mess with it. I have a whole list of other things they need to look at anyways including the steering recall..

Never fails, just replace an alternator and your transmission will be right behind.

Funny guy! That pump can't even see the rims to be jealous of them. Maybe some of the other parts have told it about them.

Getting back on track, I think I know what my problem is. Well, I have lots of problems but I'm referring to the truck issue... While I was hosing the engine off I took a soft bristle brush to my pretty painted valve cover. While doing that I remember knocking the crap out of that "T" fitting right where it goes behind the firewall and under the cowl. Everything seems tight but I am sure I either knocked something loose or I may have broken something under there. I am told that the vacuum reservoir is up under the cowl and that's where the line goes. It's definitely not the pump. It works just fine and it's only running constantly because the truck is sending juice to it. Now to figure out how to pull that cowl off and get to that reservoir......

It's fixed. I did indeed break the line right behind the "T" fitting. I stuck some vacuum hose on it and it seems fine now and the pump stopped running.
