What to pay??
Hi Guys,

I'm an FNG on this site and have been lurking here for a few weeks as part of my research on "what to buy". I've narrowed it down and am ready to start negotiating a price soon. The question is, "What to pay"?

What constitutes a good deal?
What constitutes a scream'in good deal?
How can I find out if there are any factory to dealer incentives now?

I'm looking for a SRW 3500 Laramie, HO, 6 spd, with all the goodies. The MSRP is $42,650.

As usual, all help is appreciated. Your thoughts??

Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
Re:What to pay??
A good start is www.edmunds.com. That will give you a rough idea of what to expect...and it lets you build the vehicle with all of the options you want. You can also go to www.kbb.com and figure out approximately what your trade will be worth (assuming you're trading in)..although it's not always accurate.

Re:What to pay??
The best offer I've got so far is from $42,650 to $35,524 which is $7,126 off of MSRP. I don't want to be greedy, but I don't do this often enough to necessarily know a good deal when I see one with all the incentives flying around these days. BTW, that price does include the $2,500 consumer rebate that DC puts on the table.

Sounds like I might already be in a pretty good position here.

My trade is a '96 Exploder with a V6. I'll be severly happy to be rid of it.

Thanks for all the input!!

100 Proof

Re:What to pay??
That basically sounds like the same deal I got except that mine is not an HO. They are trying to move out the remaining 03s and that is why they are dealing. Once the 03s are gone, so are the deals.

My dealer even gave me $2000.00 over blue book trade in because I was about to walk out on the deal they were offering me.

Edmunds and kbb.com are great places to go. I found this site http://www.carbuyingtips.com/ very helpful also. they have a worksheet you can use to figure a fair price http://www.carbuyingtips.com/download.htm

7,000 off MSRP sounds fair to me. You also have to figure what the truck is worth to you. I paid right at 31,000 for my 02 but my neighbor wouldn't drive it if you gave it to her.

HTH and good luck with your new truck

Re:What to pay??
100 proof, Have you checked the dealer in Kellog ID. pretty tough to beat his price. My buddy used his price to get local dealer to deal. He got a Slt, 4x4, HO, QC, 6sp,sport,LB, everything but leather for 29,800. With 2000$ rebate and 300$ "on the job".Awesome price
Good Luck, Terry

Re:What to pay??
Terry-

I've chatted with the folks in Kellog (Dave Smith Motors) a couple of times. So far, my local guys, with a little prodding, have them beat and I won't have to spend a day getting there and back.

I finally got my wife to drive the 3500 with me last night. Her comment was, "I didn't think it would ride this rough." I almost drove off the road LMAO! This is an unloaded 1 ton truck! Not quite like the luxo-cruiser she's motoring around in.

Re:What to pay??
100 proof, If your local dealer is beating or close to DSM price, it's a good deal. I always buy from guys I like and trust. Just a good piece of mind. It's good to help local economy as long as they are competitive. As for the ride, I have DRW and it rides great. The swb must be a little rougher. She will get used to it, lol!!!! Good luck. T

Re:What to pay??
Thanks Terry,

Yeah, they are at invoice and DSM wants invoice plus about $300. The local guy is throwing in a few other things like free loaners when I'm in the shop, discounts from the parts department, more... They are decent to work with so far. I'm going to be out of town till Monday, so that's when we sit down to seal the deal. Hopefully they won't take what's been a surprisingly pleasant experience and screw it up by insisting on including a bunch of garbage fees in the contract.

Yeah, she's comparing the ride to her LS Premium Mercury. As if.... HA HA HA. She'll get used to it.

Thanks again to all who advised me on this. I'll let you know the rest of the story next week, when I'm (hopefully) the newest CTD owner on this site!

100 Proof
Re:What to pay??
Now is a good time to buy.

If you got the $1000 coupon in the mail, that coupled with the $2500 cash back can get you into one for around $3500 under dealer invoice provided you can find a dealer willing to sell at invoice.

Re:What to pay??
I got my '03 quadcab HO 6-spd 4x2 SLT SB for $27,157.... IMO a pretty good deal MSRP was about 35K. I have to say Dodges are far cheaper (and much better ) than the other two and right now is the best time to buy one (with all the rebates and stuff). Paying $410 for 72 months... nice and comfortable

Re:What to pay??
I have had my truck about a month now, sticker price was $38,360 my OTD price was $31,027. I would have preferred a 2500, but couldn't pass this deal up. $174/mo. x 60. But there went all my new dirtbike money on the down pymt. It is getting late in the year, deals are out there. Make sure you have them check rear differential and change alt. bracket if it does not have the new style(non-cracking style!).
