What Happens To The Dodge Buyback Trucks?
I was talking to a friend of mine today and he was showing me a set of Laramie Dodge Graphite Leather Heated Electric seats he had just installed in his 2004 QC 1500. They were really nice and he asked did I want a set if more came in. He works for a major re cycler chain here in the southeast.
I asked if they bought that many wrecked Dodge trucks and that was when he told me that they get all of the Buy Back trucks, Jeeps and cars from Chrysler. They dismantle them with a given process and destroy all of the tires, airbags and several other pieces that Chrysler does not want resold.
This particular truck was a 4x4 dually from an Alabama dealer that had a Cummins TD seize up with only 12K on the clock. The dealer had replaced the engine through Chrysler Warranty and then the owner refused to accept it back. This truck is now in many little pieces.
Now we know what happens to the "Buy Back" trucks that nobody loves anymore and are turned in.

Thanks for that tidbit. I thought DC sold the buybacks to a dealer "Dead Center in the Middle of TN 20 miles from Jack Daniels and 10 miles from George Dickle and .8 mi from the liquor store at I-24 Exit 114"
I'm not sure if you'd call this a buyback, but a local dealer had an 04 2500 QC SLT CTD with only 100 miles on it a couple of months ago. Their ad in the paper didn't state what tranny it had so I emailed them. They responded that the radio on this truck was stolen in transport to a dealer, the truck was refused and returned to the plant. It was repaired and sold as used. The dealer still wanted $34K for it.

I wish I was the recipient of the buy backs. The yard dismantling these vehicles is LKQ across the interstate from me. Just turn right at the liquor store and go 1.5 miles on hwy 41.
Last week Terry was stripping Liberty Jeeps that had been in a transporter train crash. Those leather seats still had the plastic on them.
He was instructed to drill 1" holes in the tires and destroy the air bags plus several other body cuts that must be made and sections saved so the inspector could ascertain that they could not be welded back together to re-unite the original body/chassis.
I'm on the list for a set of Graphite leather seats with heat! lol jim

I just recently "lemon lawed" a 03 Ford f-250 powerstroke and I was told that they take the truck back to the factory and over-haul the truck then the truck goes back to the auction block and sold back to the public with a salvage title..

I believe I realize why Dodge does the auto re-cycler process with these vehicles. This way they have no further issues from them and the public can never complain that one of them was not fixed properly or that it was the cause of a safety issue that caused some type of injury.
All in all I think it is an appropriate action to re-cycle them. This provides good used parts to repair other vehicles that need the parts and that sure beats just crushing them. There are good parts for us to use and the Lemon is gone from the sack.
Besides, I sure do want a set of those Graphite Leather Seats........jim
