Went over 200,000 miles Tuesday
I was coming back from Louisiana Tuesday night and went over 200,000 miles. The truck is holding up pretty well considering what I do with it. I have had some problems, but other than a weird power steering problem that no one could figure out and losing the injection pump it has been pretty much routine maintance. I do have some things that are needing to be fixed in the near future, but considering the loads and miles, they are to be expected. I do know that my next truck will be a 1 1/2 or 2 ton truck, I hope Dodge will come out with one by then. I need more suspension, heavier rear end and bigger wheels for what I do. I don't believe brand C or brand F would have been this trouble free doing what I do.

EB290 must be a hotshotter judging by the description of his rig. My youngest son runs hotshot runs also in a 99 3500 standard cab with a flatbed, out of New Orleans, has over 350,000 miles on it and no major repairs. He plans to go to 450,000 to 500,000 before getting a new one. He makes regular runs to the Cummins plant in Indiana hauling pumps for barges, they tell him up there "Glad to see you are about to get it broken in".

Dorkweed, You can probably come back to Texas to visit but you will have to have your Passport stamped. My son lives and works out of New Orleans but takes runs all over the US.
My oldest son was a Cummins tech for an independant company for years. Of course all three of us swear by Cummins.

That's funny Texcowboy9. I drove all over the USA with my '99. From Illinois to Nevada, Georgia, North Dakota, Missouri just to name a few. Those Cummins diesels are made for the open highway. In fact, I still have two cousins that reside in "The Republic of Texas." One lives in Denison and the other in White Settlement. Gotta love that second town name!!!!! There aren't too many places as pretty as the hill country of Texas IMHO. Take care.

Just got in from another run.
kry226, I run oilfield hotshot, it's in my profile.
tobyw, I put the edge on with less than 25,000 miles. No problems with it at all
Texcowboy9, the truck I had before this one had 416,000+ miles on it when I sold it. Needless to say, it was a Dodge.
The comments I made in the original post about needing more truck have to do with the suspension, axle, and wheels, not the engine. I have plenty of power. If the rest of the truck was equal to the engine, Ford and Chevy could close up shop as far as diesels go. If I knew how, I would post some pictures in my gallery to show some of the loads I pull.
In the morning I have a run with 30 joints of 3 1/2" drill pipe, that is an average load for me. I took the pipe up there Monday morning and will pick it up and take it back tomorrow, 230 miles loaded, 230 empty. It will come out of a wet, soft location. Should be back by 2 PM and hope for another run. That is what my days are like, the miles pile up in a hurry like that.

yep. For serious work, you need the gears and suspension and all the medium duty goodies, but the old shiny 290 hp. cummins has probably moved as much freight as any engine ever built. They would go 500k between rebuilds and the in-frame only cost 2500,including the rebuilt pump which cost about about 300.The costs of a pump now is more than an-in -frame overhaul was on those motors.but I guess thats the price of progress.

everyone gasps when I tell them I have 90,000 on an '03
I have also had an EZ on, for almost 70 with no trouble. Although my mileage has recently dropped a little

so how many hours are on your truck? I take it you know how to get it?(turn on ignition, hold odometer reset in for 5 seconds or so) I'm guessing around 5000 hours? I'd be interested knowing.
