My god, I went down there thinking "I only want NADA trade in value for my suburban, this won't be a problem....they offered me $12k UNDER the trade in value. I laughed and left..went to another dodge dealer, they did the exact same thing. You have got to be kidding me. Guess I won't be getting a new dodge afterall. As disappointing as that is, I can't justify that kind of loss...when the GM dealers aren't making me eat it.

True, so something under the NADA trade in value was expected..but what surprises me is that the GM dealers (GMC and Chevy) are 3k under, while the two dodge dealers are $12k under. Surprised me is all, and unfortunately keeps both my truck as well as any of our fleet sales firmly planted in GM land. I had hoped to get some of the dodge trucks into our fleet...just not going to happen at that kind of loss.

mt father just traded in his yukon xl for a duramax. he took a beating... this is a dealership he has bought about 8 new vehicles from. he knows the whole sales force well. the reason is the market is flooded with suv's and the 07 body styles are coming soon.. new body style= less $ for your old body style

You are making a buying decision based on what you are getting for a trade-in? I usually don't use Smilies but I gotta in this case.....
1. Always sell your vehicle yourself. Never trade it in if you want the most return on your investment.
2. If you are getting a good price on your trade-in then you are getting a horrible price on your new vehicle.

I feel your pain. I was going to trade in my 04 on a semi tractor. But after getting trade in value's of $18,000 on my 04, I'll drive it till the hub cap's fall off.
It's the name of the game. If you want a new car, you just have to bend over and take it like a man. Then you just tell everyone about the great deal you got. But in reality, everyone who has traded in thier car know's the same good deal feeling your getting, but it's everone's little untold secret.
As I'm sure you know, selling your's out right is the only way to get anything for it. Unless you're in a hurry, then go for the good deal feeling.

"Book, Trade and Retail" values are published by the tooth fairy. I haven't gotten those values in 20 years.
And, forget "invoice", when you mention dealer holdbacks they run for the exits. Have you seen the size of some of these dealerships. These aren't "small businesses".

i had the same prob last month dealer orferd me 16 000for my truck ,i called the dealer that i got my truck at they said as built 22000 ,today im goin to a dealer ,i asked them over the phone hows trade in ? he says we're hear to make you happy ,ill find out today

April 1st of 05 couldn't decide if I should tade-in my 99 cummins because of the 53 block in it. I traded for under $14,000 to boot for the truck in my signature. I got over $29,000 for my 99. Yah I know it's all a numbers game but still I paid under $14,000 for my new one. If you want the best price you have to shop around and be willing to drive a few hundred miles or more some times. The dealerships around me wanted any where from $2,000-$8,000 more. Guess they didn't want the sale and hence they didn't get it.

Glad my wife and I traded in her little Mazda Protege when I got my truck. We ended up getting roughly $300 more than the payoff for it and the trade in value was a little over 2k less than the payoff! I love my dealer!

Amen brother ! Selling your own vehicle is the easiest way to save money buying a new one. Put an ad in the paper, shine it up and show it. It isn't hard work. I've done really well selling vehicles this way.
