Welding on Hydroformed Frame

What is the official rules for welding on our boxed/hydroformed frame? I am specifically interested in welding on bump stops to add an overload spring pack to my 06 2500.

My guess would be that the factory bump stops on the 3500 series trucks are welded on after the hydroforming process??

Anybody done this? One spring shop says ok, another says to bolt them on.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you're comfortable welding on your truck, just unhook the battery cables. I think some guys have gone a bit further(unhooking other grounds on the chassis), but I think most say that will work, and keep your ground close to where you're working.

Are you going with the factory 3500 overloads, or an aftermarket set?
Also, have you considered air bags for added load capacity, or at least a better ride with the added load....

My buddy welded some tabs for my KC lights to the frame on my old dually. He said that as long as you weld in the direction of the frame (longways) it won't crack. But when you start welding across the frame it can crack there?

I have a custom gooseneck hitch in mine, along the frame, no problems yet and plenty of tracks down the interstate with the pullin truck following me!
