water in body mounts

water in body mounts
Installed Stull running boards today. They attach by way of brackets that go on the bolts where the cab attaches to frame. When I pulled the bolts, especially the front most ones, I got a sleeve full of water. Not good. Used an angle grinder to cut some D-shaped drain notches towards the back of the steel tubes in the rubber mounts, then painted them with cold galvanize zinc-bearing paint. I don't know if this water retention thing is typical, but it does not seem good for the long haul. I am passing this info along in case it helps others spot or avoid a problem

I noticed the same thing when I loosed the cab bolts on my truck. Did you try the bolts in front of the front wheels? I did and there was more water in them than in the other 6 combined. I didn't think of notching the tube and will go back and do the same to mine when the weather dries up from Ernesto. Thanks for the heads-up!

I didn't check the front ones (thanks for drawing my attention to those). I'd been planning to do the ones for the bed at some future point; today was just the running board project.
