Vortrac Tire Update

First rotation at 6k +/-. 2k of those miles were towing 12k lbs. Brand new they were at 16/32". The rears are now at 12/32" and the fronts at 15/32". Seems like excessive wear on the rear tires, but I dont tow often enough to know how tires wear when towing "heavy".

They do wear faster when towing heavy. you can reduce the wear by making sure they are fully inflated. If load range E= 80psi

Well the Vortracs are E rated but max psi is 65 lbs. Im not sure why, and I checked and double checked, 65 max. I had them all at 62-65. The guy at discount said I have more outer wear than inner. I have not aired them down sice we towed the trailer out here. We will see next time they get rotated how much they have worn.

Ive now got about 20k on my second set. Had to have one replaced because it seperated. I also have another that is bulging in the sidewall. Problem is, they are on backorder for 6-8 weeks. Tire shop gave me a loaner 315 until my tire arrives. Not impressed.

Are Vortracs that re-cap outfit I saw online where you could get a 33" AT or Mudder for like $100?
I dunno about that. I like having new sidewalls with my new tires, besides where to they get good carcasses? My tires after say 2 years are pretty beat up and usually starting to crack.
20k and they're messed up. Guess half price = half tire life, or less.

I don't believe so, I beleive they are a all terrain tire from Super Swampers.

Not re-treads. They are AT's from SuperSwamper.

More outer wear than center means it is under inflated.

Sorry Txwelder. The only thing I am getting from this thread is that the Vortracs aren't a good tire, yet you went with another set.

My self I have never seen an E rated tire that could only be aired up to 65 PSI. 65 PSI makes one think that its a D rated tire.

PSI and load ratings aren't totally related.
I've got D-rated Yokos with a max PSI of 50.

The first set were fine, although I didnt drive that truck long enough to put as many miles on the tires as I have this set. Simply trying to get my experiences out about a brand of tire. Not looking for inflation advice.

Tire tread width and wheel rim width, matched, tend to make the best towing set-up. A shorter sidewall also keeps squirm low, but is hardly compatible with LR-E and general purpose truck tires, IMO.

I'd set pressure according to per-axle weight scale readings (and in respect of Dodge guidelines).

I'd also look carefully at wheel balance, and consider CENTRAMATIC balancers to help.

Reading the INTERCO description makes me believe this tire is about traction, a "high heat" tire compared to a low rolling resistance, cooler running highway rib tire.

Installing some internal pressure/temp sensors would be informative.

Ok, another update. I had a second tire found separated about six months after the first and a third one today. They were all replaced under warranty even with over 30k on this last one. Ill never buy them again.
