voltage low to heater grid relay

i have only about 3 volts at the relay that is located between the battery and the heartwo intake air hearer elements. this isnt enough to allow the relays to intergize and heat the elements...why is it low?
whats the fix?

Welcome to DTR. Click "User CP" up in the dark blue bar and fill out your signature so we have an idea on what vehicle you are having issues with. If it were me on my CTD, I would check all the connections to ensure they are all clean first.

all is clean

its clean enough...with a volt meter i have about 3 volts coming into silinoid through fingers which isnt enough to entergize the silinoid..so no voltage is allowed to go to heater grid in intake manifold consiquently i have 12 volts on incoming side and none out at silinoid

Usually it doesn't take much to close a relay. Maybe it's bad.

there are two silinoid relays and both are only getting 3 volts...its works fine if i by pass and apply 12 volts to it..voltage just too low

Try looking at fuses?

I agree that it may be a fuse. Sounds like you're getting some back feed through the solenoid coil is the reason you're reading any voltage at all.

The schematics don't show a fuse between the ECM and the relays. If you were to disconnect the wire at the connection you are getting 3V at, and then test the wire towards the ECM vs the connection at the relay, you will see where the 3V is coming from. If from the ECM, probably bad connector or worn wire issues.

If the 3V is from the relay side, then, yeah, maybe being back fed. That side is ground and shares a splice with the Right headlamp, Vacuum pump, and the park/turn signal lamp.

If there is 0 volts from the wire coming from the ECM, then the ECM may not know its cold enough to turn on the grid heaters. I would then check the Intake Air Temperature Sensor/Map Sensor and it's connectors on top of the intake manifold.

low voltage

the 3 volts is coming from the strippped wire that is disconnected from the relay..there are two relays with two wires each...i believe one is to ground but the two that are stripped are going back to computer....those have 3 volts with key on..this isnt enough to entergize the relay...i am not testing through that relay but with them unpluged thanks for the help ...not repaired yet but going to a dodge dealer in am...i know this will be a rip off and maybe not good but at least some progress i hope....phone 270 519 2875
