Undercoating and Soundproofing
Looking for recommendations for undercoating and sound deadening. My '06 from Texas has neither and with the 4" turbo back exhaust it humms. Up here in NY the need for undercoating takes the lead in things to do. I've heard that Land Rover has a Hard Wax undercoating that while pricey, is one of the best.

I believe the hard wax product you are referring to is Waxoyl. It is rather expensive if a shop applies it ;however, you can purchase the product and apply it if you prefer. Just remember, this is marketed as a rust/corrosion protection product, not a sound deadener. I have it on a 65 mustang that is garage kept. While it is not driven much, the product has held up well over the years.
As far as sound deadeners, I recommend Dynamat. There are cheaper alternatives;albeit, I cannot comment on how they perform.

I worked in a Euro repair shop and the Waxoyl undercoating always seemed tacky to the touch. Several of the guys that own Rovers swear by it, but hate working on anything covered in it
Well, I guess you do it right or you do it twice, thrice, etc.

look on some car audio forums. on my 06 i covered the entire floor pan, rear cab, inside door skins and inside door panels with raammat i believe. www.raamaudio.com
Then i covered the entire floor pan and inside door skins with luxury liner pro from www.secondskinaudio.com
The raammat is like a dynamat (dynamat is just a brand name and quite an expensive one yet not better than the others). They are all pretty much the same, a butyl rubber asphalt mixture with an aluminum backing. It sticks to everything and makes panels more rigid, but not much of a sound insulator. The luxury liner pro is a closed cell foam with a vinyl backing. its a great sound insulator. you also have the option of open cell foams that are also good.
I have stock exhaust on my truck so i cant offer any results as to how much that cut down, but it did make the road and wind noise almost non existent.
