Transmission/Transfer Case Fill Plugs
I want to check the fluid level of the 6 speed and transfer case. I noticed that there appears to be some sort of white thread sealant on the fill plugs. Does anyone that has a service manual know if I need to put something on the threads before I reinstall. I dont want to take them out until I'm sure.
Thanks

The only thread sealant I would ever use in a gear box is Teflon tape. With pipe threads, that's typically not required. Are you sure what you are seeing is not the paint they put on to tell if the plug has been removed?

I've had all the plugs out of the various holes on my truck and noticed either some factory sealant or loctite on all of them...I always just use a few wraps of teflon tape to prevent seepage and also to prevent galling in any aluminum..no need to overtightnen then either..always works great and never so much as a drop of spillage
