Tranny ????
I have not changed the fluid in my tranny. But the truck has seemed to have gotten quiet a bit louder. The sound changes as the gears shift thru the cycle. Is that why the truck has gotten louder b/c of the tranny fluid? And is there a filter on it? how much fluid does it take and how to you fill it up? and what fluid goes in it?

It takes 5-8 qts of ATF +4 fluid. Make sure of the +4 designation, it you use the wrong fluid your warranty is instantly voided. You drop the oil pan, remove the filter and replace it, then bolt the pan back on. The gasket should be reusable but use your good judgment to make sure it seals OK. Then add the fluid thru the dip stick tube.using a cheap funnel that fits the opening in the stick tube and after 4 or so qts start the truck and put it thru the gears without driving it, then leave it running in neutral and check the fluid level. Add 1/2 qt of so at a time till it reads in the middle of the full area of the dip stick. Again put it in drive, then reverse and back to neutral and check level again. If ok you are done.
By the way fllushing is not really recomended although many dealers and service centers try to sell this service.

How many miles on it ?
When I buy brand new , I like to change all fluids in the 1st 500 miles , there are almost always some manufacturing bits / pieces / shavings .
There is a filter in the trans [ have to drop the pan to change ] , there can be some hard & fast opinions on this but its my preference to have trans flushed = pump out all fluid , vs. changed = drop pan change filter replace missing fluid , thats a difference of about 14 qts =flush vs about 3qts change .
Then you can either go with factory fluid recommends , a standard fluid or synthetic = my choice Amsoil http://www.twinportsales.com .
Get gauges , trans temp , boost , exhaust temp , fuel pressure .
Now to the noise , with out hearing its hard to tell , you should be under warrentee , so check with dealer , but I would 1st go to a well known trans shop 1st , the dealers can be a bad place to go , not all , the trans can be a big expense , so get a 2nd opinion .
If the dealer does want you to pay , then go to one of the after market rebuilders , this is one of the best , http://www.goerend.com/
