Question Tranny Question on Brand NEW Truck...

I got my new 07 MC a couple of days ago.
I am not familiar with the 48RE, so I have a couple of questions.
The tranny feels like it shifts a little hard between shifts. Does that get better? Does it hurt anything? The truck kinda shakes just a tiny bit in first before it shifts into second. Is this normal as well? Keep in mind that my truck dont even have 200 miles on it yet, so Im hoping wearing the tranny in will help a little. What things do I need to do to get a good tranny break in so it will last for me? Im keeping the engine mainly stock.
Thanks.. -Jon

They all shift kinda hard but as soon as you hook a trailer to it, it shifts nice and smooth. As far as the vibration, do a search, there is a LOT of reading about it. Something to do with the angle of the driveshafts on the Mega's. I have a QC so I dont know much about it. My tranny shifts kinda hard depending on how much I am in the throttle. 3/4 throttle=smooth shifts, 1/4 throttle=firm shifts. Hope that helps..

my 06 shifs smooth unless you stomp on in then it will shift harder .also i had a sligh shutter when taking off from stops when driving normal.i lowered the rear to get the goose neck to line up better an give the truck a more level look.this process did away with the shutter .it must have changed the angle of the drive shaft going into the carrier bearing.sorry about the slow reponces, hang in there they will come.by the way my truck did this when new juct like yours i have 11,000 now no problems

Firm shifts.

A slightly firm shift saves your tranny from excessive wear. Love it. I test drove an '06 and thought the 48re was silky smooth and mushy. I thought it sucked after coming from a DTT in my '99.

Firm shifts will keep the clutches longer than soft ones. Soft shifts allow slippage.

Interesting...did you just notice this by chance after running beta 4.4? I can make my transmission shudder now too..never could before. OD or third it will do it when I get on it. I think it is torque converter shudder. I think the TM that comes with 4.4 may be too strong for the stock stuff. I'm going to put my truck back to stock in the morning and try the same thing to see what it does.

Some of the shudder may be due to the carrier bearing not being loaded. Mine did this when new, but no longer does it.

that is the same thing mine did. i had run it with #7 for lots of miles with no problems, then i switched to mod trq mang on #5 with no problems. i actually drive it easy also. but with the 4.4 i can get it to shudder pretty good while merging onto the freeway. the only other thing i can complain about is the turbo bark can be a little violent while towing!! aside from that its awesome. like everyone mentioned the power is very strong all the way through the power band

I set mine back to stock and no shudder no matter how hard I got on it. I think I need a stock torque management of the 4.4 when it gets released. Just to clarify though, the shudder can easily be avoided by controlling downward pressure on the go pedal.

well bud, great minds think alike. i took mine back to stock after talking with chris at relentless diesel and getting a quote on a tranny. and i really laid into it coming home and couldnt get it to do it once . but i think im going to be stock for a little while...if anyone knows bobs number, id appreciate it. i cant find it to save my life
