trailer wiring probs

Anyone else have probs with their trailer wiring. I get brake lights and signals , but no tail lights. Checked both the 7 pin and flat 4 and no power to either tail/running light pin.

I have a different problem. I know my trailer is right from pullling it with other trucks. Went out the other night and picked it up with the 05 I just bought last month.

Brake and tail lights work fine, but when I turn on the headlights, it locks the trailer brakes. I called the trailer place here and the guy there said he has seen several Dodges with wiring problems in the connectors. Guess I am going to have to trace it out and see whats up.

Common problem to turn on the truck lights and lock brakes. You have 2 wires crossed on your trailer. Can't remember which ones. Happened to me to. Dragged that sucker across the person I bought it from yard. OOpps. From what I remember it was running lights and one of the brake wires. Can't remember which one. Just rewire the trailer.

The trailer wiring works fine on the other 4 trucks I pull it behind.

First time I have seen this happen, and only behind this truck. Tells me it has to be the truck, not the trailer.

Not doubt it is the truck, just easier to change the trailer wiring. The problem is their is no clear standard that everyone uses.

I dont know if they changed the wiring on the 05 trucks or what, but the same thing happened with me. I have a 2003 gn horse trailer, every thing worked fine with the 96 truck. Bought the 05 brakes locked when lights were turned on. I just took the trailer plug apart and moved the wires to match the 05, 96 doesnt get to pull that trailer anymore.

Well, that is interesting.
Only problem with me, I need to still be able to pull the trailer with the other trucks. Guess I will have to make an adaptor or something for the 05.

We have a couple other trailers also, if it is the truck I would need it for all of the other trailers.

Changing the wiring idea ranks up there with the lower geared G-56 in my book.

Actually, there are standards - see HERE.

A circuit tester, a helper, take notes on colors and circuits ought to tell you what your truck puts out. Gotta hit the brakes to see what's getting powered. Might have to plug into your connector and check the actual wires in the pigtail going to the trailer to see what's getting the juice.
It doesn't help that DC uses wire colors that don't match the rest of the world going to the 7-pin. I had to chart everything out when installing an in-bed 7-pin RV connector. Also some circuits are protected by the fuses up front - I blew the 12V positive (battery feed) twice while testing. Since it works fine on other trucks I'm with you - the truck must be cross-wired. I would fix the truck rather than make a cross-wired pigtail. Another possibility is to hook up to another trailer that you know is set up right - that one ought to lock up too. Good luck!

If you want to check the truck and it has the towing packing the wiring diagram is on the cover of the 7 pin connection (factory one by the tag). That way you can check to see what it is supposed to be. Didn't know you had mulitiple trailers and tow rigs.
