Trailer Lights

I have a 2003 2500 and have been having problems with the trailer light. I had replaced the fcm and check the wiring to make sure nothing had come unhooked or wore into. Would you think the next step would be to replace ipm. According to what i had done a search on it would be but i just wanted everyones opinion before i spend the money for one. Thanks

What exactly is the problem? My trailer lights would come on and go off as I drove. I determined that somehow I was not getting a good ground between the truck and trailer. I ran a separate ground wire that I have to connect whenever I hook it up. Problem solved.....

check fuses under hood , drivers side fender panel.there are seperate fuses for trailer hook up both left and right, these are indipendent of the truck, thru the trailer tow package, hope this helps.

I checked the fuses they are good however I have been having problems with it blowing the fuse to the reverse lamps. Do you think there might be a problem in my wiring that i missed?

My trailer has a separate fuse panel of it's own and after 7 years it looks really rusty and dirty. You may want to check to see if your trailer has it's own fuse box......

with a test meter or light, check the plug at p/u,( trailer disconnected) , see if you have power to this point, if not it's truck wireing, if power, check trailer wireing, run a test wire off of battery to test both l/r lights, be sure trailer is grounded, hope you luck,

My right turn/stop quit working last year. I tried to bypass my IPM and wire-in a separate relay, but my problem was in the FCM ($$$). I posted many times about it and finally settled on one of these:

http://www.hitches-forless.com/electrical/modulite.htm

Installed it a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had time to tow with it yet. Will post details later.

That's a nice unit but what I'd really like to have is a 7-way male to 7-way female adaptor with 15amp fuses on the stop, turn, tail, reverse light circuits and a 25amp on the 12v power. No fuses on the brakes or ground of course. That way it could be plugged in to any TV (tow vehicle) and would protect the vehicles circuitry. Much like the Modulite does but wouldn't require a permanent installation.

Another possibility would be to wire the modulite into a short 7-way pigtail and use the 12v power for the feed, since it's fused at 30 amps directly from the battery.

I also had this problem and it was a ground im assuming cause i took a wire and spliced into the ground at the plug and went right to the frame. Kinda hillbilly but it worked.

Undo the black cover on the IPM (next to the battery on the driver's side). The fuses are labeled on the back side of the cover.
