My 07 only has 55k mi, but it hasn't really been worked hard since the orig owner had it (only 10k mi, pulling a 26'TT most of the miles). We live in the mtns, so it works a little on the hills and tows the boat/sleds once in a while.
Mainly the wife commutes to work and kids' carpool. SOme days it's 30mi one way trips, some days 10mi one way trips, barely enough to get warm.
I have had no problems so far with this, maybe it will affect overall longevity of the engine, but for now it shows no ill effects of being a grocery getter.

I have to agree with everyone here, you can read my sig to see what I own. I use it daily 30 miles round trip and have only had 1 concern with a faulty battery. I wish I would have spent a little more for the mega cab; my son is 5'11'' and is only 11! But I got such a good deal on the quad cab I could not pass it up. Best of luck.

IMHO the hardest thing for a Cummins engine is to drive it 1-3 miles to work and shut it off and do that every day 5 days a week. They can be good GG/DD if you get them up to full operating temp and do at least 75% or more driving it 10 or more miles at a time. If its a DD its also good to get it out on the Hwy for a few hours with a load once or twice month to burn out some carbon.

I actually need to find someone that needs to pull something heavy and get on the road and lay the pedal down. My truck has been going a while without having a nice heavy load under her!

The 03 - early 04' trucks get the best mileage of the common rail version of the engine, which is the 305 hp/555tq model 5.9.

Yup. If you don't "need" 4WD or A/T, then the 2WD with the man trans is the way to go (signature). Solo or towing it is more than impressive, dead-stock. Just give it what it wants (leave it alone) and you'll never miss a V8. As a truck driver I knew the specs I wanted, and the CTD cannot be beat in any relevant category.

I was discharging a patient from the hospital today and her husband picked her up in the identical truck to the one I'm looking at. White crew cab, 05, SLT package, 17" chrome 5 spoke wheels, etc.
He said he owned a PSD before, but it didn't pull his 24 foot boat like the cummins does. He bought his with 17k miles on it and in 2 years now has 156k miles on it.

He said there is no looking back with that cummins.

06 truck, 110,00 miles, daily driver, pulls a camper 6-10 times a year, no issues other than maintenance and replacing every u-joint in the rear driveshaft @ 100-105k, and a loose hose clamp on a heater hose-

There is no need to remove the cat, the gain in doing so is so minimal its not worth it, plus most say there is increased drone. Removing the muffler will free up some power, slightly lower egt's, and provide a big-rig sound.

Love my '05, wouldn't trade it for anything. 105,000 miles and it just keeps on going and going and going. I wouldn't worry about the emissions that cat is all there is. If you keep it stock the cat can stay on or come off it won't make a difference, just noise levels. Keep it stock, the extra power these trucks make will just get you addicted and unless your ready to pay to play, keep it stock.
