Track bar adjustement w/ leveling kit...?

Does the track bar require any adjustment with a 2" leveling kit...? If the axle is shifted slightly to the left, I would think that adjusting the track bar is the only way to fix this...?

I don't think it's required, but an adjustable track bar would center the axle again.

Offset track bar bushings will also do this. I used them and the axle is within a 1/8" of being centered. Close enough for me.

I installed a 2 inch leveling kit on my truck last year and I now have over 12k miles and the tires are wearing normal and it goes down the road straight. I did not have it realigned or do anything with the track bar. The steering wheel is just slightly tilted to the left but not by much. When I get new tires next fall I will get it aligned.

That's nice to know. I just received all my parts from Lorenz for the 5100 system.

I advise you install Don Thuren's track bar and adjust the toe when you're done. a 2" level kit will throw out the toe enough to prematurely wear a set of tires.

ptgarcia,

I might end up getting an adjustable track bar. For now, I'm going to just install the Lorenz 5100 kit and see how things go. I don't mind spending money if I have too, to fix a problem. I just want to make sure the problem warrants the additional expense. My tires are on their half life anyway.
Might do the trackbar when I get new tires.

It's only money - right.

Yup, only money.

The factory track bar is junk anyway. The bushing are too soft and allow too much unwanted movement. Don's bar gets rid of unwanted movement resulting in a tighter feel in the front end. It's also adjustable. Its worth the money.....

i agree that a 2" lift will throw out your alignment with the rear axle (thrust angle?) but it should not affect your toe in at all.

on my 99 i ran the stock track bar with 3" in the front and saw no problems. i later got an adjustable track bar and it made it track down the road better.

If you look at the front setup on our trucks, you will see that when you raise the truck no matter how much it is going to affect the Toe, and Caster. It will also change the steering to not be centered. It is because the steering box is going to be a greater distance away fromt the axle and the steering linkage needs to be adjusted to accomodate this.

With a cross over steering setupup, you are correct in saying that the toe will not be affected, but with the stock setup, it will affect TOE!

i have an adjustable trac bar on my truck. the only reason i never got a leveling kit was because of the axle shifting concerns. i was under the impression longer control arms were need to realign the axle-but an adjustable track bar will do it??????

The track bar centers it laterally. The control arms center in longitudinally. A 2" level kit won't push the axle back far enough to necessitate longer control arms, but it will shift it to the side enough to make a longer track bar advisable.
