Will the toyo open country tires fit my stock 17 inch steel wheels. Are they E rated or D rated

They are E rated and they will fit the stock wheels. But the stock wheels are a bit narrow for them and you might get some minor rubbing on the control arms at full lock turn.

H2 wheels solve both of those problems.

Yes, the 285/75's will fit just fine and fill the wheel wells just right without any rubbing at all. I mounted mine on the stock 17X8 inch wheels, which is in the recomended wheel size for the tire. Of course these are on an 07 4X4. They are "E" rated tires, with a weight rating of 4970lbs which is alot more than the stock "E" rated tires.

Will they fit an 03' ?

What would be the problem if any with putting an 285/75/17 on a stock 265/70/17? I will be pulling a fifth wheel and need to find solution without getting the 19.5" rims and spending $3,000.

The 285/75/17 fit fine on the stock wheel. No rubbing when 4x4'ing either. They are great in snow compared to the stock Michelin 265/70/17 tires. As Mopeman said, the stock wheels are the recommended size for this tire. (Also I believe the rating is 3970# not 4970#)

Thanks dude for catching that... I'm half retarted sometimes...yes, it's 3970lbs vs. 3195, that's 775lbs more rating, or 1550 per axle. I perfer to be way over on rating than close to or over the limit.

I have them om my 06. They do not rub at all. Look nice and ride great. However they are worn out at 38k miles. Back are almost BALD and the front have an 1/8" on them. And yes I routinely balanced and rotated them. Jury is still out if I will put them on my truck again.

Yes, it will change your gearing and speedo, the 285/75 tire is 34 in. tall, I just put a set on my truck (Toyo AT) it did change my speedo and I bought the Smarty to take care of it , WOW I had the Bullydog for the last 3 year on the truck and that Smarty is night and day difference all around. I even have my high idle back again which Bullydog wouldnt let function. power loss is not noticable from the taller tires, I normally buy a new truck every 4 years..... figured I would spend coupla thousand on this one and change the feel and appearance, I put a set of chrome H2 wheels and tires, the Smarty and picking up my Bilsteins today, it is like a whole new truck to me

krisbarger: I can feel some reduction in power taking off from a stop. I still use 2nd gear starts though unless it's uphill. Cost me $80 to reset my speedo at the dealer. I keep track of mileage w/ every tank. Looks like I've picked up .1 to .2 mpg for the way I drive. I haven't noticed any difference in braking.

nitis: for the kind of driving I do (no pavement queen stuff), I prefer the skinnier 285s. Might be better for mileage too but not sure.

Also I'm guessing I'll get 35-38K on them depending on tread depth next snow season. For reference, I got 45k out of the stock michelins - which I was happy with since I do a lot of mountain & off pavement driving.
If you do much off pavement, you'll really appreciate the extra 1" clearance under the diffs.

Hope this helps!

They are a relatively new tire .. like 15 months old or so. My local independent store hadn't heard of them either but a phone call to the Toyo distributor confirmed it for them. The funny thing is that these tires were available in Canada before the US.

1010tires has them ( http://www.1010tires.com/ ) but you'll pay more. I paid $194/tire US mounted and balanced.
