Towing With Brand New Truck

TOWING WITH BRAND NEW TRUCK hello. This is probable a stupid question but why not ask it anyways. i just got a 3500 ctd drw 4x4 and it has 400-500 miles on it. is it ok to hook up and tow my boat with it now.the boat weighs about 6500 pounds.if i wasnt desperate to tow my boat with this i wouldnt and let it properly break in.i always let my cars break in for about 1-2k miles before i start flooring them.please helphttps://www.dieseltruckresource.com/forums/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=101#

Your fine, just tow with it. As long as you have the 500 miles on it, for ring and pinion break in, you are totally within specs to run it towing or whatever. The manual for the truck tells you this. If it was goin got hurt the truck, Doge would tell you to wait longer. Hook up and enjoy it, it will actually help you break the engine in better with a load on it. Scotty

50mph

The manual on my '06 actually says no more than 50mph for the first 500 miles of towing and no towing first 500. However, I have read plenty of guys hook up the 12000# RV straight off the dealer lot and no issues.

I could be wrong because I just worked all night, but I believe that the owner's manual actually recommends towing a heavy load after the first 500 miles to help with the break in.

I think the manual says to vary the speed the first 500 miles, but it clearly states, that no break in is required for the engine. They say the truck can be used RIGHT away for what it was designed for. My truck has lossened up alot in the last 5000 miles of ownership, when I first got it the overhead would read around 16, now it sits pretty steady at 20. The OH reads a touch high, but I think that is because of all the trips I do on a tank. But, I am easily getting 650-700 out of every tank when the light comes on. I am super happy with the progress the truck has made, and really, for a truck this big, if it never got better than 16, that is really still pretty good mileage for a big truck with this much power and TQ.
