Towing advice needed.........

Towed my 6000 lb camper for the first time today with my new to me 2007 5.9 . I put it in tow/haul only and then went to No OD due to being on back roads and it shifted a couple of times. When I got to open roads I stopped and put in just tow/haul. First question is was the stop necessary or can I just toggle to what I want by pushing the button again? 2nd question, when I got to the interstate I set it on 65 mph in OD on cruise with tow/haul on and it never shifted while in the hills of eastern KY. I did kick it up to 70 mph and it down shifted on the next hill ( scared me to death )....lol back to 65 mph. It got 15 MPG towing on a 200 mile trip, and I'm not complaining. Does this sound proper or would you advise some other driving style?

No need to stop, you can change the Tow/haul on the fly. No need to lock out OD unless you start lugging the engine or shifting back and forth from 4th to 3rd. Sounds like you have 3.73 gears. Not uncommon for that to happen with them in the hills. A Smarty Jr with more power will stop that from happening but a tranny upgrade is wise. I could slip the stock TC with a Quad box on 30hp in the hills while in 4th at 60 mph.

Sure would be nice if they could program the 2005-06 to shift this way.

The 06' is the same as the 07'. First year of supporting an exhaust brake in an auto from the factory. The 03-04.5 only have an OD lockout. The 05' has the Tow/haul mode only but can be reprogramed to have OD lockout only from Dodge. If you use a Smarty though, it will change it back from what I have read. For the 05', I think it is BD, that has a box that will make it work like an 06'-07'.
