Tow mirror replacement glass?

Hello,

I broke the mirror on my 06 3500. It's the large type tow mirror on the passenger's side.

The housing (the black plastic parts) are all okay, it's just the mirror that's broken. Anyone know if you can buy just the mirror plate? If so, a part number and price would be much appreciated. Instructions on how to R/R would be really helpful also.

Thanks, Scot

ScotS,

Same thing happened to me on 2005 SLT driver mirror. Dodge doesn't offer replacement glass. I went to Binswanger glass and I can get replacement glass, but each piece is $60.00... total $120.00. I can get replacement housing, glass, all for around $160.00 (fleet discount). Trying to find my old post so I can get part number that another member gave me to try.

ScotS,

Eric@TVP trivalleyperformance.com did some research and found the part number for my mirror and found that Dodge doesn't offer a replacement glass. He also had several replacment mirrors in stock for $156.00. If I can't get my fleet discount locally on part, I will be ordering one from him. He was more than helpful trying to locate the glass for me. If Tri Valley support is as good, seems like a good place to shop with... my $.02 worth.

As far as I know, we do offer it. I'm looking at it. Pretty positive it is the right PN. The spotter glass and the main glass have seperate numbers. PM me if you want some more info.

I Bought My Passenger Over The Internet And When They Shipped It They Hit The Large Mirror Glass And Cracked It, So I Went To Dodge And They Said You Can Replace It And It Was $53. But I Couldnt Figure Out How To Replace It. So I Went To Dons Mobile Glass And Bought The Mirror Glass Already Pre-cut For $23. And All You Do Is Glue It Over The Cracked Mirror. So Far No Problems And You Cant Tell Its Overlapped.

Exclamation

TSB 23-013-07 details the removal of the mirror itself on 2002-2007 models.

had the same thing happen on passenger side mirror. Any local glass company can cut you a new mirror. Mine was 19.95 cut and attached. Took the whole tow mirror off so they could fix it and picked it up later that day.

I purchased a replacement mirror from a local glass company years ago for another vehicle I owned. When I went back to get one for a Dodge van I used to own a while back, they said they didn't cut mirrors any more and they only sold pre-pakaged replacement mirrors and man where they proud of them! I just went on down to Wally world and the cheapest merror they had, removed it from the frame and broke out the old carbide pencil and an emory sanding belt for my belt sander. Three trys later (it was a full length mirror to start with) I had my replacement mirror.

You're saying that you got a replacement glass for a power/heated tow mirror for $20? Including labor to install?!

So far I haven't found any glass co. that will cut one. My towing mirrors are the aftermarket ones Dodge sells. The large flat piece measures 7 x 10 (measured backer plate) and the convex one is 3.5 across. However, the backer plate is actually curved, not flat and the glass is shaped kinda like a persons eye(not round). I may try another glass shop, but my hopes are dimming. Dodge does not have replacement glass listed and does not sell individual mirrors, only complete replacement units by the pair!

Oh and the part number I was given by Erik wasn't for the fold out towing mirror. I appreciate his help though. He did not have to help as much as he did.

Thanks for the replies! I got a genuine Dodge heated replacement glass for $37.10 + shipping from Dave Smith Motors in Idaho (same place my truck came from). The part number according to the invoice is 5161010AA. I had seen the instructions in the TSB posted above, but still couldn't figure out how to get the old mirror off. Now that I have the new part, I think I can...the locking tab is slightly lower on the round mount area than I thought.
