Question toolbox and bed cover.. loss of space?

im in the planning stages of getting my first truck it looks like it will be an 07.5and up, crew cab 6.5 ft bed, i wanted a tool box but also a bed cover to cut down on air resistance (hopefully to squeeze out a little better mpg lol ) but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas or pictures they would like to post or just feed back

thanks nick

I'm betting the simplest way to achieve that is a chest type box that sits below the frame rails so you could still use a standard cover.

There was a chest type box for sale in the classifieds a while back. You can also get what amounts to a large drawer that mounts to the floor. You drop the tail gate and pull out the drawer. All ground level access that way.

oh sweet yeah ill have to check it out, i actually just did a search on chest tool boxes and came up with some brands and some types i liked, i also noticed this low profile box that sits on the rails but only about 1.25" on the rail, do you think that would be low enough to still snap down a cover?

I would think so but check out the cover first. Best to look at one installed if you can and check out the installation instructions also. This is an investment so you need to be sure before you buy.

There are tons of box manufacturers out there. I found on my last purchase that Weatherguard uses a coating on their boxes now that inhibits the oxidizing that occurs on aluminum boxes. I've had this box on the truck for 5 years now and it still looks good.

There are tonneau covers specifically designed to use with over the rail tool boxes. Check out undercover or extang.

Truxedo will custom make a cover to go to the above rail tool box. They also make one that looks/works like a regular cover, but also hinges in the front for the under rail boxes.
