Tool Chest Install?

I just bought a diamond plate tool chest, I wanted to know the best way to mount this for easy removal. I have a short bed and would like to remove it to haul bigger objects.

The last toolbox i installed, i used 1/2 bolts with fender washers, i got in a wreck and the tool box had four big holes in the bottom of it from the washers. Install pics , bolt size and any other heads up would be great.

thanks

maybe i missed it, but is it an over-the-rail toolbox? if it is, you can use "J-bolts" (mine came with them) to secure it. they hook under the bed rail through slots in the side of the box. (sorry if thats unclear, not really sure how to describe them, maybe someone with a digital camera can post a pic for you)

just my .02cents, lots of people with boxes though so im sure others will chime in

My toolbox on the Jeep Camanche is not bolted on, put weather strip under the sides and it never moves, just sits there. Two guys can lift it off for long loads, like a new longblock Guess it would be fine unless you flipped the truck.

INSTALL

So what size bolts are being used, how many?

Are you mounting the box directely to bed or do you use a rubber mat, piece of plywood, or some thing else between the two?

Inside of 5th wheel tool chest, do you run 1x6(wood or other material) from bolt to bolt, so all the force is not on the little 1" washer?

Thanks again

Gonzo,

Thats the kind of box that I like.....its deep and sits on the floor...

When I eventually get one, I plan on using 6 hockey pucks between the tool box and the truck box. Drill 9/16" holes in the pucks and run 1/2" bolts through the toolbox, then through the pucks, and finally through the truck box. For the inside of the tool box, I will probably use a combination of fender washers and 1/4 steel or aluminum plate (4"X4") or something similar to spread the load over a wider area.
