I have a buddy who just traded for a megacab this week. On Tuesday, he traded an '03 CTD quadcab 4x4 with 37k and it was extra clean. I'm not sure what kind of deal they worked out but do know that he said they gave 16700. for his trade-in. Out of curiosity, I called the dealership today posing as an interested buyer and they priced the truck to me at 28995.....

just watch all the paperwork. they gave me 18k for my 05 2wd silverado that i owed 24k on...ok, all good, i hated it. then they wanted 40k for an 04 ( this was in late 04) with 17k miles. i THOUGHT i had talked them down in price and was getting a deal, not being very saavy and being very young, i wanted the truck and therefore i got it. come to find out, they never put my downpayment towards the price, needless to say it all came out to 48k in the end...i know i was upside down on my chebby, but still, i really got taken on this one. oh well, wouldnt sell it for anything.

Don't go by Kelly Blue Book. Thats the book the dealer use's to show you. Use NADA. I have a friend who is an Allstate adjuster. He told me to use the NADA.

Talk about dealerships trying to rape you on trade in. I went to a few back when they all started the employee pricing in July. One Ford dealer insulted me by only offering $9500 as trade . I just laughed, and didn't look back or talk to him again when I walked out the door. A Dodge dealer did a little better, by offering $12,800 and I almost bought a left over 2004.5 Viper Red SWB QC Sport 2wd for $28,500. They took over 3hours trying to secure the financing after I told them I was just going keep mine and sell it myself when I buy theirs so I lost intrest. They all quoted something like this, "it's a Reg. cab 2wd with high miles and we can't sell it". A couple months later after the frenzy died down, my trade magically gained almost $4,000 when a used '04.5 caught my eye, cause that dealer offered me $16,500 without too much squabeling but by then I had dropped $2grand in the tranny and a couple other things, so I still have mine.

If yer gonna trade, don't give in!! When I got my '03, the dealer was gonna give me 5500 trade-in for my Subaru. By time I actually made the deal, 3 days later, they gave me 12,500; plus they removed the 4k regional mark-up off of the price. AND I got all of the incentives offered. The only thing was, I was on my way to the door before they caved!!
The thing is, they alway try to pressure you. I don't understand why it works. The ball is in your court, so to speak. You already have a great truck, and they NEED to sell theirs. So, the power is in your hands, if you don't get into too much of a hurry.
Almost every 'expert' will tell you- do the deal in seperate steps. Get the bottom line price for the truck, regardless of your trade. THEN deal with your trade seperately. One has nothing to do with the other. The dealer wants to make you believe it does, but it does not!!

Keep on dreaming. You'll get about 24k for your truck if your lucky. Plus people are buying 06 for low 30's and that kills the re-sale on 05's
