Tires
Trying to find out how big a tire I can put on my stock wheels.
05 ram 3500 4x4. I want 315/70/17's Anyone know if they will fit on the the wheel? Also the rub factor? I was able to use them with after market wheels ( American Eagles)
on my 04 ram 2500 4x4 with a little rub on the plastic line on the frotn wheel well.
I was told on the 3500 the front discs, are different than the 2500?

Thanks, i did some research, and found I should be okay with a D rate tire as the load is within the specs. I had bfg at D rated 315/70/17's on my last Ram, and pulled load of around 5000lbs, never saw a problem, I did see early wear, I'm a bit lazy on the pressure and rotation, most likley my own fault. My stock tires are E and 80 lbs max, the bfg's were like 60. Sure like the look of a full wheel well. Here in Phoenix area, there's a place that offers a $199 out the door for a 2" front level kit, may be a way of getting rid of the rub.

I have BFG AT 315's on my stock wheels. Max air pressure is 50lbs and I believe they are rated for 3195lbs per tire and marked as D load range. I've never had a problem towing as long as you keep em aired up good. The thin (and tall) sidwalls dont help though. Still aint bad.
I also have a level kit on the front end. There is slight running on my lower control arm only on the pass side while turning hard right.
I too like a full wheel well.

hand calc with the BFG 315/70R/17 was ~20MPG. That is with the Smarty and me driving to squeeze best milage. My commute is just over 20 miles using county roads @50/55.
As for towing, the airbags and lots of air in the tires does help alot but I could feel the difference when I went to the E rated tire shown in my sig. I tow a 26ft toy hauler about 7K empty not heavy but does have a 1k tounge.

Nice lookin truck m13. I'm sure hoping i ge better mileage when the engine brake in, now has 12k on it. I only got 9.43 stock tires, pulling trailer and loaded truck maybe 7000pounds. Was a lot of up hill, and 110 out on the way home. Wish I could see better mileage. I had the cat taken off and added a megaflaw muffler sounds great a little loud inside when pushing it.

It should get better with more miles. Mine has almost 106k. On the highway with the 315 I have hand calculated 21mpg as my 'personal best'. Usualy I'll get around 18-19 on the highway. Around town and backroads is anywhere from 13-16. This is mostly unloaded. I dont bother with my loaded miles, I'm usualy too busy or in a hurry and dont write my milage down when I'm loaded.

So the answer is "yes." I think I'd be getting about 23mpg on those county roads.
