Tire size . . . need help

Have had my '06 for about a half year now and can't stand the stock road tires that are on it any longer. I'm going to put a good set of more aggressive ATs on and was curious what size I'm going to be able to get away with. I do a little bit of towing, but not much. The most I tow is probably 6,000#s. Mainly just my duck hunting rig and some deer hunting equipment. I have the 17" chrome clad wheels that came with the Laramie package on the truck with 265s. What's the largest tires I can get away with on these wheels and truck? Can I get to 305? Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated!

Depending on the rim most guys can go up to a 315/70/17 with no lift and no rubbing.

I had the 315 70 17 on the stick rims. The middle wore out first and could only muster 45,000 out of them. I had 285 70 17 on my 03 with centerline wheels with 8.5" width they are wearing excellent. I liked the combo so much I had them put them on my new 05 i bought in June of this year.

My old truck was an 03 QC 4x4 My new truckis an 05 2 wd QC found new on a lot in Houston.

I had 315/70/17 BFG's on stock rims with 2" lift on 04 3500 4x4.
I now have 285/70/17 Cooper STT's with no lift on 06 3500 4x4.
The 285's look very aggressive and feel better. For the suspention and steering on the stock trucks I think the 315's are just a little much (just my opinion)

285-70-17 is the ideal size, plenty of options, personaly i wouldnt go over 305-70-17 on the stock wheel but they will fit 315's, although will probably rub a little, the Cooper STT is a nice tire, also Toyo A/T and BFG T/A will do you a great job

Thanks guys, appreciate all the feedback. I am probably going the 305 or 33" route. I know there are a heck of a lot more choices back down at 285, but would like to have a little bit more wheel well fill in. The tread pattern also makes a big difference on the looks, though. I went from 265 Steeltex on my last truck to 265 Timberline MTs and it made the truck look about 3 inches taller and ten times more aggressive at the same size.

Speaking of the speedo changing . . . do you have to go to the dealer to have it recalibrated?

I've got the Pro Comp Xtreme A/T's in my sig. Mine has a small lift, but they don't rub even with a 9' Fisher X-blade on the front so I think they'd be fine stock.
