Tire pressure on rear Duals?

What is everyone using for tire pressure on rear duals? I pull a 14000# gross 5th wheel and has about 2000 # hitch weight. I figured from owners manual about 65, but not sure if I need that much. Looking at tires with truck empty they only touch the road about 80% of the tread. Not sure if they flatten down with trailer on or not.

Re:Tire pressure on rear Duals?

Well I have been running 60 empty, might step it down to 55 and give that a try also.

Pulling my goose neck, 21,500# trailer weight, 3,500# pin weight, 7,140# rear axle weight - I have been running 70psi seems to work pretty well

Re:Tire pressure on rear Duals?

I run 65 in mine for towing my fiver. Seems to have a good profile at that and good coverage. I drop them back to 55 if I am not going to be towing for a while. I'm close to 16000# on the fiver.

Re:Tire pressure on rear Duals?

I also run 65 psi in the duals when towing. Last time on the scale with the fiver the truck grossed 10,400 lbs. I have since added a 30 gal aux fuel tank so I figure the next time on the scales I'll be about 800 lbs below the 11,500 GVWR. I probably could run lower pressure at this weight according to the inflation tables but it rides good when loaded.

Re:Tire pressure on rear Duals?

I run mine at 65 lbs all the time. Haven't pulled 5th whl yet. Much easier to break rear end out if running higher pressure. I think the max weight notation of those Goodyear rags indicates 80 lbs for max load.

I run them high empty cause it gets hot here and running above 80mph with cruddy tires requires air. Dually tires are very cheap items spec wise and have lower weight ratings than single rear tires, usually.

Since Goodyear is all that can be bought, I work on the assumption that the oem tires are garbage. They have had numerous separations.

My '01 SRW had Michelins and they did very well. I ran that must faster than I do the dually simply because the dually has Goodyear garbage on it.

When I tow, I'll jack them to 80 lbs.

I contacted Michelin and begged them to produce a 17" dually tire for us, but no response. I saw a post that indicated that Bridgestone may have one for us this fall, but don't know as I haven't contactd them. I also asked Toyo to get with it as they make a pretty good hauling tire.

Goodyear is cutting jobs so fast one would expect some "retaliation" on the production line, similar to the problem Firestone had recently.

Re:Tire pressure on rear Duals?

So it turned into a goodyear bashing thread now.

Well just so ya know we run pretty much all goodyears in our company trucks and never have had one failure. We have a set of Michilens on one truck and they suck when you get off the payvment compared to the goodyears. Also ran Goodyears on my T/A all the time but figured I would try a set of BFG's because everyone says the Goodyears are junk, well the Goodyears will run circles around thoose BFG's in the corners and on take off.

See everyone has an opinion......

Re:Tire pressure on rear Duals?

Are you sure about that? Mine are 80psi at max rating.
