Tire Life
I am looking at getting new tires for my 08 Cummins. Last year I put on some At's. They lasted 40,000 miles. Definitely not worth the money I spent. I am looking at either A set of Nitto Mt's or Federal's Couragia MT. I have been able to find threads on here for Nitto but not the Federal Couragia MT. Does anybody have any experience with the Couragia MT? If so, how did they hold up. I am going to stay with 285-70-17 for size.

I have a question. If you didn't like the 40k you got out of the AT's, do you think you'll get more from the MT's? MT's won't hold up as long as AT's all things being equal.
That said, for the size tire you mention, take a hard look at the Hankook ATM's. They have a very high load rating in that size, offer excellent snow traction and very long life. I've had mine for 2 1/2 years and they still look new. Very stable when towing heavy as well.

Stick with A/T's or a highway tire, M/T's will get you anywhere from 25K to 40K max. Toyo A/T's have a tread life warranty of either 40K or 50K, don't recall which, but I want to say 50K.
My Firestone M/T's lasted 28K, My Toyo M/T's have 32K and will need to be replaced in spring (40K'ish). I rotate them every 6 weeks regardless of mileage.

The 285/70/17 nitto dura grapplers on my truck look like they will easily last 50k+. After 25k with alot of towing/hauling, they are less than half way worn. I run 80psi towing and 70f/65r unloaded.

I just had the Cooper ATP in 285/70-17E installed at Discount Tire. Discount matched they're on line store pricing and gave me a $50 gift card rebate
The tires have a decent AT tread pattern and good siping, and come with a 55K mileage warranty. Hard to beat for under $1K out the door.

Same tires here. I have almost 50k on mine and will easily go another 10K to 15K. This is mostly (75%) highway miles. I will go with these again for the next set!

Mickey Thompson MTZ hold up real well. I have 40K+ on mine and still looks like 15-20K more to go. That being said, I wont go with another MT tire because these are hard to keep balanced, and they are noisy. I tried them because of the great look they give the truck, but it is out of my system now. They are E rated tires and I run them at 70 psi all the time. 75 when towing 5er. If you are wanting aggressive look check out MT ATZ or their newer lines of tires STZ and ??. Toyo AT3 look decent as well. Overall I'm happy with the MTZ, just getting wiser in my decisions now. Hope this helps.
Best to you.

The tread pattern may not suit your needs, but for what it's worth, I got 95K miles out of the original BFG Rugged Trails. I put another set on and am currently at 148K miles and expect to get close to 200K before they need replacing.

I agree. I loved my BFG Rugged Trails! I got 80k and could have gone longer but was about to take a long trip and didn't want to have any road side issues if possible. I went to the Nitto Dura grapplers due to BFG Rugged Trails not being offered in a 285 size

I use Coopers on my stock wheels and they last pretty well, but if you really want long mileage, go to the big rig wheels and tires. I run Hankooks on my 22.5" Alcoas. They will last 200K + miles and they stick like glue. I change to stock wheels during the road salt season. Salt kills the Alcoas.

I have 39K miles on my Michelin A/T 2 tires now, they started with 15/32" and at 39K have 11/32" left. At this rate these could be 100K mile tires, but I will replace them due to heat and age before they wear out.
I was reading about the Nitto Crosstek tires yesterday, they are more aggressive than the Dura Grapplers, but less than the Terra Grapplers. They come in 285/70R17 in a 121 load rating. They look like they will last a lot of miles.

coop's
i had a pair of 265/75/16 bfg a/t's on the back and have rotated them to the front at mileage, the other two were dean xst's from Schwabe same size they have 65k the bfg's are worn out on one side and mostly on the other. 29k Americas tire warranty them for $81 each and I went to cooper atp's . I have done a lot of tire bus with Schwabe but they have added to many fee's to everything.two of the replacementsmastercraft couser ct for the sxt model is now $524.24 a pair.$15.50 for steel valve stems,$30.00 to spin balance 2 tires, and 31.00 dollars for service stud ,i think that is mounting.Grand total for TWO 265x75x16e is $653.20,choak,choak, 10% discount and $50.00 dollar trade in makes them. $550.00 at Schwabe. i had two different tire store guys tell me that the tires now are softer and don't last as long,by design.

Just an update...I was incorrect in my post above.
Toyo Open Country M/T 35X12.50
Had my tires rotated 11/30/13.
I have 12/32 of 21/32 left after 26400 miles
26,400/9 = 2,933.33 miles per 1/32 of wear
Law states 2/32 must replace, but I do it at 4/32 due to occasional snow/ice travel.
So...
17 X 2,933.33 = 49,866 miles.

Spoke with Les Schwab during my rotation, they have a new 65K Passenger A/T but on E-rated they expect 50K.
