The stock BFG A/T's, while better than the Michelin's are only OK off road and decent in the snow. They are fine on gravel, but do not do well in clay or mud. The tread pattern clogs up easily and does not eject the dirt well. If you are concerned with road noise then I would suggest the Toyo A/T's. The BFG A/T's are more aggressive, but may be too noisy on the road for what you want.
I have Toyo M/T's and love them, but they are load.
I like the suggestions of getting the cheaper tires and trading them in on what you want. Having said that the stock BFG's may be OK for you. It just depends on how much you want to spend right after buying a new truck.

I believe stock BFG are the Rugged Trail, not A/T's or All Terrrain.

I would go to a local tire place and ask them what they'd give you for either and see if paying the extra would be worth it.

I'm a big fan of the Michelin's I have in my sig, especially with the snow we've had this year.

Toyo M55 are the best all around tire I've had. They wear well and work great in the snow and handle great as well. I put on 300km per day with gravel , snow mud and blue clay. I have them on my 97 and will have them on my 08.

Look at customer reviews on "tire rack"

IMHO the top 3 are going to be Pirelli scorpion (Atr?)Bridgestone Dueler Revo, and the BFG All terrain TA (ko) Tho I don't think you can get the bfg in"E".

Alot of the guys here like the Toyo's.

I agree with checking the tire comparisons on the tire rack web site. I got rid of my stock BFG Long Trail because they were the worlds worst on wet pavement. Went to Bridgestone Revo's and couldn't be happier. A little noise but best wet pavement tire I've ever had. Have 50k on them and have about 10k left. Make sure you stay with the "E" rating whatever you chose. Good hunting---

I agree. I had them on my 2500HD and they were awesome.

I'm calling Toyo just about every other day trying to get them to make a 285/70/17.

My Nitto Terra Grapplers are just about shot with 15K miles on them. I'm hoping to get to 20K.

I doubt Toyo will get the 285s on the market by the time I need new tires this Summer. I'll likely have to suffer with a set of 265s

My Nitto Terra Grapplers have 20K on them and they are just fine. Probably will get another 25K out of them. They ride great, did great in the snow in Michigan over Christmas and do well in the sand on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
