Timbrens and plowing

I started a thread earlier about getting into plowing and after doing a lot of research and talking to plow dealers I have found that due to the weight of the Cummins I am very limited in what plow I can get. What is everyones feeling on using Timbrens to get around this issue. I would like to get an 8' Fisher HD but the dealer said its too heavy, of course that was before I learned about Timbrens. Anyone else do something similar?

i don't think it's a spring issue, im pretty sure it's a weight rating on the axle issue. the cummins puts the stock front axle already close to it weight limit. if it were just springs im sure someone would have put out heavier duty ones already.

What is the GAWR for the front axle? I wonder how close the CTD and a 750# plow will push the limit of the front axle.

Jason I run 2" spacers and a 8' Western Ultramount on my truck with no issues. I highly recommend this plow, but if you want the Fisher and can get a good deal on one, than go ahead.

I run 2' spacers, Timbrens and 5100s and couldn't be happier ... I could run the BAJA with this thing now. I ran the first season with this truck stock and it sucked with the rake in the front. Your FGAWR is obviously important ... I still have a few pounds to spare and am using an 8-1/2' curtis but mine is a reg cab.
Our FGAWR is 5200 lbs
My Front Curb Weight is 4179 lbs ... not sure what the quad weighs.
So I have 1021 lbs of room, inc myself ... just enough
But the quads are quite a bit heavier up front so legally or warranty-wise you may have a problem ... if your dealer is a stickler. Lots of guys do it either way. The CTD is a heavy bugger.

Are you sure that you do have enough? The weight of the plow is a canteliver load which would put more stress on the front axle then just the 750 lb weight (approx.) of the plow, right? Regardless if your setup works then it works, the problem for me is that I want the Fisher 8' HD but the dealer said they can not install it in my truck due to the weight issue.

I am personally looking at the Western Poly blade unit to address the weight issues.

Anybody have real world experiences with plowing with a plastic blade?

my setup is perfect yep ... and the front end only sags 3/4" with the weight of the plow before the Timbrens. The cantilevered weight if you want to consider that is offset with the ballast at the rear of the box, on the back side of the rear axle ... kinda like a teeter-totter.
I ordered the SnowPlowPrep pkg on my truck so it is warranted and engineered by DC to carry my plow with the ballast. If you don't have this SPP pkg you are not. I'd talk to your dealer where you service your truck about this before-hand also ... will he cover you if you break something that can be attributed to plowing? just a thought ... may save you some grief down the road.
Far as poly blades ... most actually weigh more due to the extensive heavier steel bracing and supports. The steel blade, as part of the whole, is not the heavy part. The only real benefit of the poly blade is the snow sticks less at some temperatures. I've used both and prefer the steel but to each their own.
Good luck with your choice. My truck plows like a dozer.
