Thought I would tell you how well this truck carries a camper.
Hi all. I thought I would tell the group that my 04 regular cab dually 4x4 with Cummins carries our Lance 1181 Max camper extremely well.
All that I added to the truck to carry the load is air springs and this truck carries the camper really well. I drove it onto a scale in Georgia and it was 13246 pounds without my 200 pounds included. That is close to 2000 pounds overweight and you would not know it. Dan

You should be fine.
Base vehicle weight is 7550 lbs (est) and if you're total weight is 13,246, you are 1000 lbs over w/o a driver in the vehicle. Payload capacity is more than listed since you've added the air bags. You're good-to-go!
Nice choice of campers!!!!

i UNDERSTAND i AM OVERWEIGHT
Hi all. Yes I understand that I am totally overweight and that the air bags do not change the factory rating. With that said my post was simply to tell all that even being over close to a couple thousand pounds if i were to fill the water tank completely and all other things remaining the same (truck GVWR is 11900) the truck rides and handles really well. That was all I was trying to say. I am not suggesting anyone go overweight ust telling how the truck handles when overweight. Dan

I recently upgraded my camper and weighed in at 12037 lbs.
Here is the scary part.
My front axle weight came in at 5160 lbs, leaving only 40 lbs of capacity on the front axle.
Being over GVWR within reason doesn't bother me, but being over axle ratings does.

I used to routinely overload my pickup. After having an axle run out on me one day, on the interstate, with 4000 lb of cattle, I went to a heavier truck and now carry my big loads on a trailer rated for the load. The point is that a greatly overloaded pickup does not have much margin for problems that sometimes arise. You can get by if your're careful but it's definitely not the way to live your life.
