Thinking on Upgrading to a Gen3.

Been lurking on the forum for some time now. Getting all kinds of useful info. Keep up the good work. I currently have a 95 Ram 2500 4x4 quad cab with a V10 and 35" tires. I use it to haul my 29' travel trailer, my off-road jeep on trailer, snowplow some (Boss 8' V plow) and as a 2nd vehicle for the family with wife, 2 kids and a dog. I am staring to not feel comfortable with the old 95 on long trips during the summer not to mention the gas bills!

I have been watching out for a 01 or 02 quad cab diesel but am not able to find one with low milage and has not been worked hard. I am now strongly considering going with a gen 3 for all the known reasons I learned on this very forum.

I have a few questions. I am looking at a 2005 Quad cab, Auto, short box, 4x4, full load. It has 50,000KM (30,000Mi, I am in eastern Canada).
It has "Heavy Duty" on the tailgate. Does this actually mean anything or just a nice badge? If it has a tow package, how would I tell? Was it possible to get a snow plow prep on these trucks? Anything I should look out for with this truck. How do you guys find the seats in the 05. The seats did not seem as comfortable as my work GMC?

There is also a 3500, basically the same truck I plan on looking at this week. What is the diff in the 3500? Would it make more sense for putting a plow on?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I like the 3rd gens.

Anyway, I think most of them seem to have a Heavy Duty badge.

Trucks with the trailer package will have the 7 way RV plug on the back bumper and the factory square receiver.

I don't recall if there was a plow prep package in that year or not.

The 3500 SRW trucks have an extra set of overload springs in the rear, and a heavier weight rating. In some years the 3500 SRW's also came with cab marker lights. Otherwise they are the same as a 2500.
