Thinking about a new Truck
Well I am thinking about a new truck right now I have a 2005 4x4 QCSB with the NV5600 with 126000 miles. My wife does not like driving the manual and we always take my truck, even though she has an 08 Jeep Liberty .
Well I am looking for a 4x4 auto what I am trying to decide is a Mega cab or a Quad cab. What are the plus and minus of a 2500 and 3500, Mega vs. Quad, and DRW and SRW.
What type of mileage am I looking at moving to the Auto? I am getting 18-22 HWY and 16-18 City now.
I pull 10k about 10 times a year and the amount of pulling is adding up every year. 3-6 of those times is from OK to CO in all the seasons pulling a trailer of some type.
Thanks for all the help, information and input.

Your mileage is about the same as I get in the summertime. Mine's down a bit right now with the winter blend of fuel though.
Duallies will be a bit more stable when towing but they can be terrible in snow and ice.
I like my QC but my kids keep on whining about how uncomfortable the rear seats are when we are on a long trip. I wish they could recline just a little bit.
Megas are great but you have a huge blind spot with the pass side C-pillar. They definitely look better with bigger tires too. Other than that the Mega is awesome. Mega duallies look really cool too......

How big a concern is fuel mileage? You could match the mileage of your current truck in a Quad WITH deletes. Duallies not so much.
The 6 speed auto trans works great. I find the exhaust brake to be not very effective, but I have not had my truck that long and have not done any heavy towing yet. This is the first auto trans I have owned in many years, I am surprised how much I like it, how much I'm enjoying it. Even getting caught in traffic is less of a PITA, the auto really starts to make sense

Plus, when you say you are wanting a "NEW" truck do you really mean new or just different?
I had a 6.7 truck and mileage was absolutely horrible until I simply unplugged the EGR plug. Mileage jumped up 4 points immediately! Of course I had a constant CEL but I got used to it quickly....

I have a long bed Quad and the only real complaints I have with it are getting around in a parking lot and the size of the back seat. The back seat is rather cramped for a full size adult and with the turning radius you are pretty much committed to parking out in the sticks. The fuel mileage could be a little better but I think the deletes will help with that. I have a 30 foot bumper pull TT that weighs in around 10 thousand pounds and the auto trans and engine brake combo work perfectly with that weight class. Power wise I pull that trailer all day long without even knowing it's back there.

Thanks for all the info and responses.
I have one question left,
Stay with the 5.9 or move on to the 6.7?
I have read about the deletes that can be done to make the 6.7 a monster but in the end which is the better set up?

If you're only towing 10K you don't need a dually or a 3500.
You can make a 5.9 every bit of a monster as a 6.7, without the smog stuff to worry about. But the 6.7 has the 6-speed auto plus factory exhaust brake.
For used:
If you regularly put people in the back, get the Mega...so long as you don't need a long bed.
For new:
The new crew cab is much larger in back than the older quad cab. So it really comes down to whether you want a long bed (get the crew cab) or a huge rear seat (get the Mega).
