Wouldn't it be nice if they did one every year.... I used to like aging Corvettes.

I wished they changed something visual every year like a grille or something small like that so I could just take a glance and see what year it was. It would really help if they did that during the mid year changes. I can't tell you how many times I have asked someone "04 or 04.5" and get a strange look from them.

I have wondered why they didn't call the 06's 4th Gens.. to my eye it was a bigger body change than from the 2nd to 3rd gens...

Is it Dodge that gave them the 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen etc. names? I thought it was us (the internet boards) that labeled them with that.

The only real change from the 03/05's to the 06's is the redo of the headlight's/ grill and the interior, just cosmetic changes.

I think the Gen. tags come from the major cosmetic changes. A change in body style.

And maybe the 48re upgrades. I was able to get a dealer installed E-brake on the 06 I picked up today.

The generations generaly refer to ground up redesigns, not cosmetic changes like fenders and headlights. The third gens have all new frames and powertrain components for the most part. If you look under a 2003 and 2006, they are the same.

I agree that much is the same between 03-05's and 06's. But I do believe that they changed alot of the electrical stuff. I think the fuse panel is totally different also. And the cosmetics, of course...

The second Gens. were around for 8 years before a body style (ground-up) change.

With that in mind, we may be seeing this body style for a few more years.

Hopefully, they will continue "improving" the latest body style. I'd rather see better trucks, each year.

I thought that there were significant changes to the 4th Gens - - - but really>There is a new stiffer frame, new suspension, faster ECM, Upgraded Fuse Panel, new interior with longer lasting stitching, new insulated cabin for quieter operation, 3rd injection pulse, new front facia, new lights, new style rear light operation, power rear sliding glass, push button fogs, sirrius satelite radio, new console design, Oh and bad fuel economy !

Besides all that the trucks favor sum

Yep, Only the 1500 got the stiffer frame. Those of us with the 3/4 and 1 ton's just got "stiffed"

Please explain, or are you refering to the new motor being more powerful.

I've come to the conclusion that the body won't change, as the Mega cab was just introduced, and this has the 06 grill/lights.
