Tank Vent Relocation Kits

Where is everyone buying there kits from? Is anyone making there own? I have seen them cost 40-60 dollars and that seems kind of high for what you get. Any input is appreciated.

I got the one from Diesel Max. I thought the same thing as you, why cant I just build my own, and then spent an entire Saturday driving around looking for the bulkhead parts. Monday I ordered mine.

Yep, buying his kit saves you the time/engery driving around, trying to find the parts you need, talking to punks in the store that dont know what they are selling, and an all around headache.

I bought mine from innertruck, but still havent had the time to drop the tank yet(dropping the tank isnt time consuming, but getting my fuel down that low, and not needing to get to work/go somewhere later has been my downfall)
Doesnt take long to do though, just have a buddy to help and it will be alot easier.

Does this problem affect the new 2007s too? I just bought a new 2007 to tow my jeep around the NW and am wondering how much of a difference this mod would make to my new truck.

I've noticed that my 2007 does not need a vent mod. It appears Dodge fixed this particular problem. I'm able to put 32-33 gallons in my 34 gallon tank with no problem.

The other thing I did with this is I ran a piece of 1/4 hose from one vent barb to the other barb and completely closed them off so that the vent mod is the only way for the tank to vent.

I went to ACE hardware and got all the stuff myself. I think it was just under 20 bucks for all of it. I'll give you a hint....look in the marine section The transom connectors work very well. Then go to the adhesive section and get some two part ABS epoxy.

I recommend the GDP. High quality metal parts. No glue. Connect the barbs to a "T" and fuel filter set up while you've got the tank out.
You might also consider doing a fuel pump upgrade at this time....
I get the fuel up to the neck every time, with just enough room for 16 oz of power service, without ever "topping off"
Be careful if you're filling up and just going home there won't be any room for fuel expansion!

Was it worth 70$'s ????
I don't know, what do you charge per hour for your time???

How does the glacier kit plug the existing vent? Does the other kit use glue to plug the existing vent? Also how do you drill the tank and not get the plastic inside?

It doesn't, what we are referring to are the existing vents, they are exposed to the elements and is it rumored to allow dirt and moisture in. What people do is they go get 1/4 inch fuel line and a T fitting and hook the hose to each vent and put the T in the middle then run a hose off the T to a fuel filter so that it will continue to vent and protect it at the same time. What I did was plug them and use the vent mod as the tanks vent and so far I have had no issues with doing it this way, and it has gotten as hot as 115 here in AZ. No, neither "kit" comes with glue, they use rubber gaskets for the bulkhead fitting. To drill and not get filings in the tank, you have to remove the sending unit, stick a cup inside and catch them as someone else drills the hole for the bulkhead fitting.

Here is a link to the directions for the GDP mod.

The Diesel Max directions are a bit more detailed with more pictures.

thanks for all of the info. I can't decide which one to buy. Should I pay 20 dollars more and get the kit with metal hardware or go with the plastic? I like the thought of drilling a smaller hole with the glacier kit.

I went with the plastic one because the tank is plastic and I figured it was safe, although I doubt the metal would ever rip through, the plastic one has a bigger base for the 2 parts to sandwich together, and for that matter, once in place I cant see where either kit would fail unless there was a very violent crash.
