toyos seem to be the best bet
nitto has a 305 70 17 but that is gettinga little on the wide side but it is e rated I am patiently waiting too I want to but my stock alloys back on

Best i can its an all steel construction tire...like medium and heavy duty truck tires,like the 19.5's and 22.5's as well as the few heavy light truck tires like the michelin XPS series. All of those are 75 mph rated as well

Toyo now makes the Open Country MT in the 285/75R17 E but for some reason it has a less load rating then its AT counterpart. It has a rating of 3195 lbs. @80 psi where as the At is 3970 lbs. @ 80psi. and the MT is a lot more expensive that the AT and the 295/70R17 E Open Country MT.

im with you on that, i don't know why everyone wants taller and so much wider tires. i would love a 255/85/r17 that would be awesome. little more clearance, not as much affect to the MPG's
hell even if there were more options like 265/75 or 285/75 (toyo is the only one on that one.)

There are a few guys on this site that say they have ran 285's with out a spacer or a 1/4" spacer and have had no problems.But I am still yet to see pics.
