syncros and warranty

Hey guys has anyone had syncros replaced under warranty?
I looked at a truck for my brother the other day and its tough to shift into 3rd (guessing syncros) but the truck still has some power train warranty left and I wondered if its something that could get fixed on the dealers dime?

i had the whole transmission rebuilt at 35000 because of it and it still dose it.
i find it only happens when cold and it helps to double clutch it. thinking of putting another slave cylinder on the clutch but no one from dodge as it was replaced first.

Hey cowboy, do you mean dodge rebuilt it under warranty or you had to pay?

If it is the NV5600, mine has been difficult getting into 3rd since new. I have almost 72,000 on it now. As stated once it warms up it is much better and double clutching helps. I also find it helps to take off in 2nd and be rolling about 5-7 mph and then it seems to go into 3rd easier. Also shift from 2nd to 3rd really slow and don't crowd it helps too.

Mine sometimes gets stuck at a stop light....cant get it into any gear. It also is rough shifting through gears. Quite irritating. I have 36000 on mine.

Good luck getting them to do anything about it. Mine doesn't like going into 3rd either. Like was mentioned when its cold it really sucks. Nothing like taking 5-6 seconds to finally get into 3rd gear.

Double clutching does help,but still,what a PITA.

The transmission "expert" at my local dealer says its fine. Supposedly they all shift like that. I told him thats BS because my dads G56 shifts into 3rd like butter.

I think it would have to be really bad before you could get them to fix it. Shortly after I bought mine used with 25k miles rev synchro was totally shot - I think the first owner hit it too many times instead of 5th. I took it back to the dealer where I bought it (far away) twice and they kept telling me it was normal. Then I called DC and they told me there was no reason why it couldn't be warrantied. Then I found a closer dealer and had to make two trip again before I exploded on the service manager and threatened to get a lawyer. I think they all try pulling the "normal" cr@p! Then he gave in and admitted he hated working on the 5600 and agreed it wasn't normal. He overhauled it and did a nice job and replaced anything that wasn't in spec and now it's all fine. You will have to be VERY tenacious to get them to do anything. Craig

This one is really bad when its cold, mines slow but this one sucks.
I wasn't sure if it would be worth his while to pursue it or not but it sounds like if hes loud enough the may do something?

Might try a fliud change or a different brand.Lots of manual trannys over the years were/are hard shift cold in a particular gear. Not all designs of course but some.I remember 4 speed Muncies cold 2nd gear was next to impossible on first shift cold or not if all into 2nd.Yet Chrysler made T/10 designs it was no issue etc.Fluid flow cold with slightly different weights can be a big differance.Datsuns/Nissans shifted great with a straight 75wt cold but a 75w90 2nd gear was rough or raked badly on first shift cold.I mean COLD like 40 degrees or less.If mine does it I have not paid much attention to it as I think the NV5600 is a pretty lousy shifting unit in general.I will say the Amsoil fliud made a nice difference in the shift quality but its still pretty rotten in my book.I had a FIAT with a 4 on the column once that might have shifted worse then a NV5600. I can see lots of shops being hesitant/nervous about digging into a NV5600. Takes a good gear head to pull one of those apart and make it work again I bet.Lots more techs out there that can do automatics then manual units by far.Bet lots of dealers have no one capable or experienced in repairing manual/Nv5600 trannys.

I actually did a fluid change on mine at about 12,000 miles. Everyone was raving about how great their G56 shifted when using Amsoil ATF. I'm running it now and its no better,it might even be worse.

That's a G56 that takes ATf+4. I would think it should be no change to Amsoil ATF.Only difference is one is a full group 4 synthetic the other is a Group 3 semi synthetic. Now a NV5600 is a totally different trans with a totally different type of fliud.By no means apples to apples.G56 versus NV5600
