SWB holds 38.5 Gallons of fuel with TDR vent kit.
I had a five gallon fuel can in the back of my truck so I decided to run her until she sputtered and then refill it. It took 38.5 gallons to the top of the filler neck, but that is with the TDR vent kit installed. It may even hold more, because I left a stop light pretty hard and she started to sputter so I pulled over right away. On a flat road at cruise it may have gone another gallon.
591 miles got me 15.35 MPG, that was about 65%-35% hwy/city with flooring it about 6 times a day Overall I'm pretty happy with only 6500 miles on the clock.

i put 39 in my LWB but i'm pretty sure the pump at work is inaccurate, which is ok because i was being reimbursed for using the truck for company business and the fuel was free.
how hard is the vent kit to install? does this solve the slow fillup?

Not hard to install at all. It took me about 45 minutes, but I had a lift and a trans jack to take the tank down. It definitely solved the slow fill up problem. It takes about 15 seconds after the pump clicks off to the top of the filler neck.

If you are a member over at TDR, look under the basement classified section. You will find the kit that member spooled up put together. I highly reccomend this mod. Really makes filling up easy.
If you cant find it, let me know and I will try and post the link. Right now the website seems to be acting up, and I cant get into the classified section.

I agree with JohnnyH. I had bought the mod but just never got up the ambition to do it. After meeting Johnny one afternoon and speaking with him about the vent mod I went ahead and did it. One of the best things you could do for these trucks. Makes filling the tank a pleasure.

I don't think the vent kit will add alot of capacity to the tanks, maybe two gallons. The reason for my post was more to let people know how far they can go on one tank of fuel. The Vent kit is easy to do and well worth the price the guy charges for it.

The vent kit easily adds 4-5 gals. Have you guys with third gens ever sat there and tried to fill and wait for the foam to die until the FUEL is actually up near the cap? It takes forever, at least 10-15 minutes after the pump has fully clicked off. Each time I've done it (for the purposes of getting accurate mpg), I've squeezed at least 4 more gals in.

I, too, purchased Dave's kit and it is great. He even came down to Lexington and helped with the install, as he had no experience on SWB trucks. Dave's a really great guy.

I routinely put 37+ gallons in my 35 gallon tank. Thats without running it too low. I'm sure the actual capacity is 40+ gallons.
BigBlue, I dont think it is year specific. The way the 3rd gen tanks are designed, It is a 3 tier tank. The Fill and existing vent are in the middle tier. Daves kit essentially relocates the vent to the highest tier to drastically improve venting. This reduces fill up time, reduces foaming, and allows you to fill all the way to the neck quickly. If your tank is the same as a 3rd generation tank ( It probably is) it should work fine.
