Yea most of the models of the big three are 'assembeled' in canada or mexico. The majority of the components are made here in the US and all of the design and engineering is done in the states. Alot of foreghn models are assembeled here in the states to reduce shipping costs but the majority of the parts are made and shipped over separate. Not to mention all engineering is done overseas and profits dont stay here. I have just seen the fallout of Detroit shutting down first hand as I live in Michigan. Its sad all of these hardworking Americans are out of work through no fault of their own. Not just direct auto workers in assembly plants but manufacturing plants of components, advertising, truckers, ect. Its not just the direct workers laid off by GM or Chrysler we need to look at if we were to lose any one of the big three the outfall would be huge. Thats why the government is trying to keep these companies around.
